2021 MLB Playoffs

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
@jup

Sounds like MLB needs to change somethings... in the off season why not have some AFL games on TV? Why not have MLB at least do showcase games that have top incoming prospects. MLB does need to showcase more players outside of local markets honestly...

A few thoughts...

AFL is a development camp full of kids that nobody knows, most of whom nobody will ever know. There is no way to promote it as anything else. Its several steps below Spring Training, and its played during football season.

Starting pitchers aren't going to go out of style, nor decline in value on the open market. What Atlanta is doing in short series baseball won't work over 162 games, in spite of what the Rays have done, being the exception that proves the rule.

Edited to say I was hoping to see some conversations about the playoffs. Instead I come here to read this BS. Here's an idea. Keep your fucking political/ideological views out of here. Is that better DC?
Not speaking for anyone but myself, but it now seems to address the point I think you were trying to make.

I too, will try to keep the political side out of my posts, as that is clearly something that has been asked of all of us, unless we are in the proper forum. Tough line to draw at times as baseball and politics have been intertwined down through history.

The past ranks of fall league players have many big league star names among them. So there are personalities to promote, but it definitely would take a different way of marketing your sport. And at the point they play in the fall league, you are probably right - that it would be hard to know exactly which ones are going to be the stars and which ones aren't. But marketing has changed so much in the last 10 years that you would think a big time money machine like MLB would have learned how to market in a more specific way on a smaller scale through social media by now.

You could grab my interest with -

A weekly list of the top velos off the mound with video clips - fans get into that - seeing who throws gas and starting to identify with that player.

Longest bombs of the week with associated clips - same type fan engagement

A rotating post of different international players with an interesting tidbit or two on where they are from and the path they traveled to get there.

And I am sure there are many more

Lots of low cost social media type stuff available to them, but you have to find a way to use what the fall league gives you. You would be promoting Interest in the sport through a broader spectrum of players versus just the player themselves. And it would have to be targeted. But with the resources MLB has, you would think they would have some idea of how to target a broader audience of theirs on a smaller scale.

Clearly what the Braves are doing isn't a rational for 162 game season @CATS44. But barely reaching the playoffs with a wild card type record, and then playing your hand from there can be. And that model doesn't necessarily mean a great starting rotation. Two years in a row now - Tampa last year, the Braves this year. If you are looking to put your money in more pen arms and less in starters, that is going to devalue the position from a $$$ point of view.

It wasn't many years ago starters were expected to cover 7. Then it became 6. Now it is more like 2 times through the order, which at times is barely 5. Teams looking at how to parse their salary funds are definitely taking notice.

I edited per your request, but it still isn't nice.
Should of stuck with the original. At least you’re views are clear on the issue. Sorry to push your buttons; not my intention.

Edited my post to maintain board civility.
Back to the WS, impending FA Correa showing he can deliver when it matters, unlike Frankie’s recent prime time performances.

The bottom of the 8th (Graveman) is the PERFECT example of how slow the game can be and he isn't even that bad compared to some others.

You have to survive a 162 game season in order to get to the playoffs...and it cant be done consistently by relying on 20-25 relievers. Rotations will still get the big bucks.

Its why there are 21 SPs slated to make over $15 mil next year, not including a bunch of very good to elite FAs, to only two closers/relievers.

Its why older SPs with major question marks still get paid well...guys like Kluber and Smyly. Even if you can only get 5 IP out of them, its still better than one or two.

I get a GS Warriors vibe from Houston and I want desperately for them to lose.

Unfortunately, I get a "blow the 3-1 lead" vibe from Atlanta.
