2021 NBA Draft Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I can’t believe even if we won the lottery we would take Mobley. I mean he’s good but he would be a repeat of what we already have in Allen and does not answer the immediate needs that this team has....an athletic wing that can shoot and create his own shot or a taller guard (PG/SG) that can do the same things.
Take the best player. This team isn't even close to being good enough to worry about "fit".

We're down to 6 international prospects still in action (at least among the ones I'm tracking)

-Sengun's team (Besiktas) was swept in the Turkish league semifinals, and their season is over.

-Giddey's team (Adelaide) has a few games left, but Giddey's season is over.

-Garuba's team (Real Madrid) is in the Spanish league playoffs, which begin next week. They're the #1 seed, but #2 seed Barca are the title favorites.

-Prkacin's team (Cibona) was swept in the Croatian league semifinals, and their season is over.

-Bleijenbergh's team (Antwerp) advanced to the Belgian league semifinals, which begin tomorrow.

-Diop's team (Gran Canaria) earned a hard-fought playoff berth and will face Garuba's Real Madrid in the first round. It's very likely that the 19-year-olds will match up against each other at times.

-Procida's team (Cantu) has been relegated, and their season is over.

-Jokubaitis's team (Zalgiris) is in the Lithuanian league semifinals; they're favored to win the championship.

-Petrusev and Cazalon's team (Mega) is in the Serbian league playoffs which begin Thursday. They're among the better teams, but #1 seed Crvena Zvezda is the overwhelming favorite.

-Hukporti's team (Nevezis) has been relegated, and their season is over.

The number has dwindled to 4

-Sengun's team (Besiktas) was swept in the Turkish league semifinals, and their season is over.

-Giddey's team (Adelaide) has a few games left, but Giddey's season is over.

-Garuba's team (Real Madrid) is in the semifinals of the Spanish League playoffs. He had a very Garuba game today, with just 6 points, but 12 boards, a steal, and 3 blocks. If they make the finals they'll likely face ancient enemy Barca, arguably the 2nd-best team in Europe.

-Prkacin's team (Cibona) was swept in the Croatian league semifinals, and their season is over.

-Bleijenbergh's team (Antwerp) was eliminated in the semifinals of the Belgian League playoffs. He had a brutal series, especially from 3 where he shot just 1/17, dragging his season percentage down to 33%. Still interesting as 6'10" guy who can pass and shoot, but he got shut down offensively when it mattered.

-Diop's team (Gran Canaria) was eliminated by Real Madrid in the Spanish League playoffs, and their season is over. He started and produced 7 points, 3 boards, and 2 steals in their final game, which is good production for a teenager against a powerhouse team. Continue to think he's a nice stash option.

-Procida's team (Cantu) has been relegated, and their season is over.

-Jokubaitis's team (Zalgiris) is in the Lithuanian league finals, where they lead the series 2-0. He's continued his rather phlegmatic play as an efficient backup point guard.

-Petrusev and Cazalon's team (Mega) advanced to the Serbian league finals for the first time in team history, led by a surprising offensive explosion by Cazalon. The mercurial SG has tripled his scoring output in the playoffs and will look to carry that momentum into the finals. Petrusev's been solid for his part, but he's been upstaged by his younger teammate here. Only two teams have won the championship since 1973; Mega upset one of them (Partizan) in the semifinals, and will very likely face the other (Red Star) in the finals.

-Hukporti's team (Nevezis) has been relegated, and their season is over.

I can get interested in this kid if we fall out of the top 6.
Moses Moody is a better fit

Overall, Moody would have a great fit with the current team. The structure of the Cavaliers would allow him to ease his way into the league and he has the potential to be an impact player for the Wine and Gold on day one.

There are so many guys I would love outside of the top 6 in this draft between Sengun, Franz, Moody, Giddey and even Garuba. Tbh would strongly consider trading down to 7/8 from 5/6 if only green and Suggs are left on the board

If Koby and JBB stick around they won't be able to draft a multi-year project with a top 10 pick. Not in this draft. Garland hadn't played basketball in college and Okoro needed a full NBA season to become passable as a prospect. Both of those were okay, given the circumstances. This summer and draft are different IMO. Whatever they do this offseason (assuming they aren't canned) better contribute to winning games.

what player is not a multi year project though? Are you saying take a 3rd or 4th year college player, like Mitchell or Kispert in the top 10? I can see them possibly trading the pick, but I don't think they are passing on the upside of Mobley or Barnes for example, because they feel it is necessary to speed up the process. It is not like Okoro or to some degree the other guards who are still developing btw. won't benefit from the gradual improvement. This team is loaded with decent upside players, like Kabengele,Wade,Windler,IH and Allen too.
I just think if you try to liquidate your assets, for a quick fix, your window not only is smaller, the results although pretty on paper, and maybe get you some more wins initially, are not the long term solution, to building a contender.
I say take the bpa and keep grinding, and if that allows for some changes in the line up for the better right away, so be it.

No, I guess I wasn't clear. Mobley or Barnes (or Suggs, Green, Wagner, Moody, and others) would be top 7 rotation players off the bat, if not starters. Any of those guys give us something we need right now. Not that they won't develop and get better. But a guy like Zaire Williams does nothing well right now. He may have the tools to develop into a fine player in two or three years but he would give us nothing out of the gate.

I probably should have quoted the post I was responding to.

my bad

2018 Draft is starting to look pretty damn good.

Luka
Trae
Ayton
SGA
Mikal Bridges
Michael Porter Jr.
Sexton
Jaren Jackson Jr.
Miles Bridges
Huerter

With some still developing guys like Bagley, Brunson, Robert Williams, Anfernee Simons, Grayson Allen, Lonnie Walker, DiVincenzo

A lot of drafts do worse for both high end talent and for quality role players.

How does Jalen Johnson’s game compare to Michael Porter Jr?

I dont think they do, at all. MPJ has always been an elite scorer/shooter from multiple places on the court. Jalen may have similar physical measurements, but I think hes closer to a combo forward than MPJ. Maybe closer to his new teammate (Aaron Gordon) than MPJ, himself.
