2021 NBA Draft Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
TRADE: The Cleveland Cavaliers are acquiring Minnesota Timberwolves G Ricky Rubio, a 2022 second-round pick and cash for F Taurean Prince, sources tell ESPN.
Dude, you're posting these trades in the wrong thread

Sorry - figured that this was sort of the "NBA news of draft night" thread, given how fast news comes for the next few hours....

Mods can delete if that isn't right.

I'm not buying the set in stone picks. I bet Detroit surprises us all and goes Mobley, Green goes #2, we get Cade #3.

Just wanted to say before the draft get underway, huge thanks to you guys, especially especially the regular gurus for all the great discussion, deep dives, analysis and random thoughts throughout the year.

Best thread on the board for me. Best discussion anyway, not even close.

Enjoy tonight!!

I really hope we dont skip on top 3 draft talents in favor of getting 2 draft pick.....

I'm a huge Arizona basketball fan and probably overrate guys like Ayton, Markkanen, McConnell, etc. because of it, but Mobley is in another stratosphere than Ayton as a prospect with his perimeter skills. Ayton always showed a decent touch, but nowhere near the levels of finesse, quickness, and general offensive skill as Mobley.

With Ayton, any time he settles for jump shots, it feels like a wasted possession since he's at his best when he's close to the basket, staying aggressive, and embracing his "Dominayton" persona (which happens way too inconsistently).

Mobley can actually create on the perimeter. He's so agile and skilled for a 7-footer. It makes projecting him out as a big that can anchor your offense and play inside and out so much easier. Add in his defensive brilliance with elite-level rim protection and switchability, and to me, he's a no-brainer, no-questions-asked No. 1 pick.
Let's go! We just got the best prospect in the class.

Always interested to see how pick selection stacks up with the modeling I do.

From my posted "big board" of 35 guys.

23 went in the first round (77% of the total picks)
27 went in the first 40 picks (68% of the total picks)
32 were drafted (91%)

The 3 guys that went undrafted:

Ayayi, Champagnie and Hurt

All were pretty surprising to me.

4 guys went that I didn't even have in my prospect database:

Santi Aldama
RaiQuan Gray
Dalano Banton
Balsa Koprivicia

Pretty curious to pull data on them to see if their profiles are at all interesting.

You had Georgios Kalaitzakis in your database??

Gray and Banton weren't too surprising to me; I had both in my first 10 out. Koprivica, Aldama, and Kalaitzakis though...I swear, the brains in NBA front offices short circuit for some reason when they see Euro names :chuckle:

Anyone who doesn't have data is dead to me. :chuckle:

So I didn't have Kalaitzakis......but I also ignore the random Euro stash players that don't have data.

If there is an easy way to get it, I plug it in......but if it is some guy I've literally never heard of, I just move on. :chuckle:
