2021 NBA Draft Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Would be reaaaaally interested in seeing the on/off numbers for Oklahoma State. No Cade today against Baylor, but they're holding their own so far.

I hate to be this guy, but...I don't love Cade. I have several prospects ahead of him. Maybe im really weird.

I like his intangibles and leadership abilities way more than his actual skill.

Honestly I haven't even liked the leadership all that much. He's a good teammate, but that's not the same as being a good leader. He defers a LOT when things aren't going his way. And this isn't on him, but his supporters always harp on how horrible his teammates are. But watching their games, it's not like they struggle when he goes to the bench. And today they've gone toe-to-toe with the #2 team in the country without him. Maybe his assist:TO numbers are average because he's an average passer, not because his teammates have their heads on backwards?

I think his gravity is just not that great which doesn't create enough defensive breakdowns for him to score an assist. I think he is rather unexplosive with not much top end speed or acceleration/deceleration for him to be a leading guard. He is not Luka in that regard. He is also not a great finisher or shooter yet.

He is probably going to look better with NBA spacing, but putting that a side, I just love other players more. I don't think he accelerates at any particular area that makes me think that once he gets in the NBA he is really going to shine.

He just looks like someone you can lock in the NBA once a great defender decides to put a clamp on him.

But what do I know... I have watched little CBB this year, yet again.

I agree with this. I think there are other players who I would take at 1 (namely Mobley), but at the same time if the Cavs are in a position to take Cade I hope they do. I think his fit with our roster is excellent.

Although at this point, we should be finding the mid first round guys we get unnecessarily hyped about. (Kofous and Karasev anyone?)

Comparing Cade to Franz...woof...

(per 100)

Cade: 19.3 years, 6'8" 220lbs, 29.3 points (57% true shooting), 10.0 boards, 6.0 assists, 1.9 steals, 1.6 blocks, 5.7 turnovers, 4.2 fouls

Franz: 19.4 years, 6'9" 220lbs, 23.4 points (59% true shooting), 14.0 boards, 6.0 assists, 2.8 steals, 2.4 blocks, 2.1 turnovers, 4.2 fouls

A starting lineup of Sexton/Okoro/Wagner/Love/Allen would be kind of crazy (depends on where we draft). I know Franz is marked as a 2 but Okoro and him could swap defensive duties.

It all depends on where we land but I'm thinking of someone who can play the 3 offensively and shoot as well as get to the basket. Depending on where we land, Ziaire Williams or Roko Prakcin could be great options as well. Next year's draft is stacked.

I've always gotten Kyle Anderson/Boris Diaw vibes from him far more than Lebron/Ben Simmons...

I like Harper vs Badji for our pick. No sense talking about lotto types. I can not see us not making playoffs. Need to read about this sengun character.
The Harper pick would be certainly close a loop.
Another choice would be Garuba

Updated my statistical rankings. They include all NCAA prospects in the ESPN top-60 and several others.

It's probably overrating him a little as a shooter, but even if you take that away he's still a lottery prospect.

I have some things i'm concerned/less than happy about with him that I hope will look better as the season progresses, who knows.

Seems like he always finds a way to contribute, which is a really good sign. On the season he's had just one "bad" game out of 10 (in the loss to UCF) imo.

Noticed to guys with not great but not bad numbers there that I mentioned: Terrence Shannon Jr and Ron Harper Jr. everything I read about Shannon raves about his defensive potential so I was surprised to see him have a slight positive offensive rating but negative defensive rating. Good size for a wing.

Harper seems to have a good offensive game inherited from his dad and I wondered if NBA strength and conditioning program took off a little bit if his pudge, if he could improve his defense and at least not be a negative team defender.

These are guys who are not favorites of mine but I’m trying to broaden the field in the event we do end up picking somewhere between 16-23
