2021 NBA Draft Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I haven't seen a ton of Garuba, but from the clips that I watched several months ago, his offense looks like it's 2 years away from being 2 years away. And drafting a 6'8 center with zero offense and expectations of him anchoring your defense with his athleticism just screams Biyombo to me.

Wagner is giving me Haliburton vibes, where the on-court play may not be sexy but all the analytical numbers point to him being a very productive player, and making meaning contributions towards winning..

If the Cavs could acquire another lotto pick and come away with Wagner/Kispert/Moody on the backend of the lotto, I think it would set them up really well..

A Allen/Mobley/Wagner/Okoro/Garland starting five, all of a sudden becomes a pretty versatile and very strong defensive unit...

He's certainly on the undervalued list......just relative to historical impact and projected draft position.

Guys I see mock drafts lagging on:

Trey Murphy is the big one to me.......I'll do a follow up post showing the SF certainty on guys like him.

Murphy is the model Suns or Raptors pick. Guys they continually pick off that have surplus PDIFF for where they are drafted.

For wings......it just loves these types of guys in his PDIFF range. A lot of success cases......Cam Johnson, Bridges, OG, Covington, etc. that far outweighed their expended draft capital. An NBA 3 that lands in the zone Murphy is succeeds at a much higher rate.

Here are the guys who I think are hand grenades:

Doesn't hate Garuba....but it is flagging him as "be careful". Kuminga it does actually hate.....but not as much as Keon Johnson. :chuckle:

Absolutely agree.

Discussions to move Sexton for the sake of fit point towards this line of thinking. The key is getting fair value, because rookies at the end of the lottery will understandablely not put up the same raw stats as Sexton. The fit of the team overall - Okoro playing more SG, a draft slot for forward length, opening another spot in the rotation for a point guard-sized backup to Garland - will likely be the payoff.

We talked about it would be so awesome to get a top 3 pick and now some are asking to trade down or not even pick Cade, Green, nor Mobley? We have a legit chance to pick a talented player. If Cade and Green go 1 and 2, I would be ecstatic to have Mobley.

I think Mobley is a very good fit for the roster. Green and Suggs aren't as much. I think Koby might have overvalued what he could get for Sexton and now that the offers have come in, they could shift on the thinking of how they will approach building the team out.

Let's say Green is BPA, is the impact of Green and the package from Sexton going to outweighs something like #5, #8, and keeping Sexton.

I think we would have a solid rotation if we trade down and get Barnes with Bouknight, Moody, or Zaire Williams. Even Barnes and Jalen Johnson would be really evaluate the amount of talent this teams has even if they are somewhat overlapping in talent.

Wow, Prkacin's out. Not a huge surprise considering that he could use another year developing overseas anyway, but I thought he'd done enough to earn a 1st-round promise. As I've pointed out before, very comparable profile to a young Saric.

I like the lineup, only worry would be the shooting.

But I'd be very very happy if we drafted Wagner with another pick.

Thoughts on Trey Murphy? The more I read about him, the more I think he's the guy I would like the Cavs to take if they trade for an additional 1st round pick.

Length and shooting under a very good college coach. Yep, very interested, if the Cavs jump into the late 1st.

I mentioned him a couple months ago when I thought we'd be late lottery. Coming out of the draft with Mobley and him would be an awesome haul.

And @Cement - I’m a huge Trey Murphy fan. His opponents shot 32% from the field. He has great footwork defensively and he can also guard 1-4. Has great length so he is your prototypical wing player that we really need. I love his quick release from the perimeter and shot over 42% from 3 in his 3rd year. I also like his off the ball movement where he constantly goes back door and does and a great job cutting to the basket and strong to the basket. If we can get a late pick, I would want him on my team.

Much as LaMelo's success in Australia has made people kinda numb to Giddey's success, Luka's success in ACB/Euroleague has made people numb to Garuba. Giddy and Garuba aren't on the same level as LaMelo and Luka, of course, but they're exceptional compared to virtually every other prospect who followed similar paths. With Garuba in particular, he was a huge playoff contributor for one of Europe's very best clubs, and now he appears poised to play a big role in Spain's Olympic medal quest. That level of success at 19 is incredibly rare.

May need better than a late pick - he's #14 on The Ringer's big board (updated today).

Jalen Johnson, on the other hand, dropped to #26.

His stock is rising then. I remember he has around 18-22 range in which I thought of somehow OKC or NY can offer one of their picks if he goes to this area.
