2021 NBA PLAYOFFS MEGA THREAD

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Kevin Durant isn't a diva. The media that covers him is trying to turn him into a diva the same way they tried to turn LeBron into a villain when he went to Miami. It's stupid and now the same thing that happened to LeBron is happening to KD right now. The media tried to make KD a villain for going to GSW so that they could spend years tearing him down only to come crawling back on his jock when they and fans felt satisfied about how he's playing and his team.

Just look at how many people all of a sudden said that they have respect for KD now. That's corny as hell. You have respect for him because two of his teammates got injured and his team didn't win the title even though they were favorites? The silliest thing with NBA fans to me is when they act like there's style points with winning. All of this legacy talk is bogus to be quite honest. Every time it gets brought up people flip flop depending on which player they're talking about.

In 7 years when KD is passing LeBron on the All Time scoring list and he has about 2 or 3 more Championships under his belt people are gonna completely forget all the corny things they said about him for going to GSW. Just like LeBron actually gets defending more for going to Miami now then he did when it happened. What changed? He had to come crawling back to his hometown team to win a titke for fans and media to fully accept him? That's garbage.

And he dipped out again and went to LA lolololololololol. Then won a title. Now people are simply moving on to Giannis as the next guy to de-thrown LeBron and I think it's funny when you consider that LeBron is still playing and KD is still playing and both guys are trying to win more titles so they're going to put more space between them and Giannis. hell Kawhi will widen the gap even more if he wins another title in the next few seasons.

I vividly remember in December when all the talk was about Giannis being unhappy and unsure about re-signing in Milwaukee and headed towards Free Agency. The rumors about Dallas (lol) New York (lol) or some other team signing him this summer. Then he re-signs and all of the coverage on him does a 180. No more talk about his playoff failures. Shit, he was getting killed after they went down 0-2 to Brooklyn.

Narratives. They be changing.

Congrats to The Milwaukee Bucks organization and the city of Milwaukee and all of their fans. You're NBA Champions. Enjoy.

This should probably be the last post in this thread so let's get this offseason started shall we?

Why do you suppose they aren't doing that with Giannis?

You can blame it all on "media narratives" if you'd like, but it seems that ordinary fans are coming to some of those conclusions on their own. The reaction to LBJ leaving here was negative immediately - people didn't have to wait for the media to tell them what to think. Same with Durant going to GSW.

With Giannis, it's been the same thing except in the other direction. People are coming to their own conclusions about the guy based on his own actions/statements, not because they are being told to feel that way.

Just because you don't feel the same about those players doesn't mean others who react differently are "wrong". We all value different things and have different preferences.

Its debatable, but the bucks are constructed to beat you up inside, and just wear you down. You can stop Giannis the entire game and Middleton is similar to Klay in that he will burn you if you forget about him. The rest are bangers , grippy defenders, and everyone is long. Suns are quick, high scoring, high energy team, but they dont have the gas to finish. Every game will get harder for them.

I remembered this post, and damn if that isn't exactly how it played out. Kind of happened that way in 2016. Once Bogut went down, we were the more physical team, and it just wore them down. Toronto did the same thing when they won it.

Nice to see some of our young guys like Okoro hitting the gym and getting stronger.

Ugh..the idea that Kevin Durant is gonna pass LeBron in total points in 7 years is...bad.

If Durant scored his career average in total points per season over the next 7 seasons he'd pass LeBron...in the 7th season.

........................................................................

If LeBron stopped playing right now.

People don't realize this but LeBron's PPG for his career is dead even with Durant. And he's more durable.

EDIT: Oh and this isn't even taking into account Durant's missed season. If I did that, then even if LeBron stopped playing right now Durant wouldn't pass him in 7 seasons if he scored his average total points per season.

THe only chance that Durant has at ever passing LeBron is if he A)plays a few more years than LeBron does or B) LeBron just completely drops off of a cliff soon.

The missed season and the 27 game season make it nearly impossible, because people seem to underplay how good of a scorer LeBron was/is.

Wish there was a game on tonight. Way to go Suns

yep, that was a bad take. durant is labelled as a scorer as he gets hot and would score in bunches. lebron is the type who ends up with the same amount of points but scattered throughout the game.

I think KD is going to be playing in his 40's. He's talked about it before and he doesn't have kids so I can see it being a real possibility. He'll be padding the shit out of his stats at the end of his career like Drew Brees.

Anthony Davis gets traded from NOP to the Lakers and they win the championship that year.

Jrue Holiday gets traded from NOP to the Bucks and they win the championship that year.

Ingram to Cavs?

I still feel bad for CP3 but I’m happy how Giannis who worked his game all his career and Middleton as well. These 2 guys kept working their game and never complained and stayed within together to win a championship. It is so much better than seeing those super teams in big markets. We have players who try hard and we just need time and patience. I believe this draft can give us an opportunity for talent that will help us in he long term with our work ethic of players who will improve their games in Sexton, Okoro, Garland, #3 pick (hopefully Mobley), and even role player like Stevens.

Superteams are not defined by how many superstars are on the team. That's not what Giannis was talking about last night.
'
They are formed by players who are drafted or developed in organizations feeling entitled and forcing their way to another organization to join other stars who will make the championship run easier for them.
I think this is the best description of a "Super Team" I've read thus far and thus I am repurposing this for future use.

The key part of "Super Teams" is that they may not have existed if not for players making moves themselves to get there. The difference between 2014-16 Warriors and 2017-19 Warriors.

Reminds me that the Michael Redd era of the Bucks was the only time I actually disliked the Bucks.
For one, I always felt Redd should have been a Cavalier, and also the Cavs kept losing to the Bucks (it seemed) in that era. Kind of like the Heat.

But............

That's a lot of regular season stuff.

This is what I was talking about when I said people move the goal post on the Superstar argument. I personally think highly of James Harden's game. I think he's going to go down as one of the greatest hoopers ever but for years I've watched fans, media, talking heads and TV pundits always make the argument about playoff success. Guys will have outstanding numbers and people will dismiss all of it because of playoff success or how many Championships they won. Same thing happens with Russell Westbrook, Paul George, Chris Paul, and before last season Anthony Davis.

Hell, the entire media was just talking about Giannis standing amongst the best players in the league like 3 weeks ago. When they were down 2-0 to Brooklyn how many people were talking about how he was a flawed Star player and how his game needed to improve? Now all of a sudden he's taking the crown from LeBron? 3 weeks later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did Steph Curry not have to go on a revenge tour this season to remind people of his Superstar status?

You see what I'm talking about? I think James Harden, Russell Westbrook, Anthony Davis, Steph Curry are all amazing players and I like all of them but the goal post on what a Superstar player is gets moved every single season and it's usually done by fans and media in order to tear down certain players just to prop up other ones.

Just like how Kendrick Perkins made it his mission to tear down Giannis this entire playoff run. Now why would Big Perk do that? I'll tell you why. It's because Big Perk has an allegiance to LeBron James. Just like Nick Wright. Whenever those guys like Perk, Nick Wright, SAS, etc, feel like there's another player on LeBron's heels they will start creating narratives about certain guys and fans help make those narratives stick. Like how SAS got into it with KD right around the same time when KD said that he felt like he was the best player in the world. Or how Nick Wright spent the whole season basically dogging Nikola Jokic calling him the worst MVP ever and trying to discredit his entire MVP campaign this past season once it was clear that LeBron was out of the running to win it.

The media likes to try and define what a Superstar player is. I came up with my own definition which is a combination of skill, talent, stats, team success, player awards, playoff performance, and NBA Finals performance. In my opinion on 5 players meet my criteria.

LeBron James
Stephen Curry
Kevin Durant
Kawhi Leonard
Giannis Antetokounmpo

Luka Doncic is a Superstar
