A few thoughts...

1) The franchise tag seems antiquated and seems to be on borrowed time at this point.

2) The NFL is not the NBA and unless there is a major culture change I have zero worries about market size or destination cities.

3) Complaining that people who are put off by Deshaun Watson’s trade demands and drawing an equivalence to Carson Wentz is dumb. Wentz has thoroughly sucked lately; Watson is undeniably elite. That massive difference matters and negates drawing a comparison between the fan/media response to the situations.

4) I am perpetually confused as to why certain people can’t fathom some fans siding with owners on matters like these. For a large percentage it’s not because they enjoy slurping billionaires, despite this accusation. Owners are working (or trying, at least) in the interest of a team. A player acts in their own interest (as they should). So if a fan supports a team, why wouldn’t they side with an owner trying to retain talent? Watson is not their friend or family member...I don’t think it’s shocking that some people aren’t going to sympathize with a disgruntled multi-millionaire athlete over the owner of a team they’ve likely been brainwashed to support since their childhood. Seems pretty simple to understand to me. :conf (11):

With that said, I have no qualms with Watson’s trade demand. The Texans are a trash organization by all counts. I do feel like he had plenty of evidence of this and should have had more foresight to demand this trade last year before re-upping...but he’ll get his resolution regardless.

The only thing I can figure is that some fans follow/root for players rather than teams. Personally, I'm with you - at least when it comes to my own teams.

Here’s the update from today:

Jack shit happened, because it’s February.

It’s fine. :chuckle:
Why can’t you ever be decent to other posters?

edit - also I’m the past few weeks we’ve had a former DPOY released, a former MVP candidate traded, and reports of many more vets who could be released. News can break anytime.

It’s a joke.

But also, I’m not going to apologize for having a discussion about the merits of the franchise tag on a football board, on a Saturday afternoon, in the middle of February.

Perhaps develop some thicker skin for people who come here to actually discuss football topics instead of breaking news updates that don’t exist?

Or perhaps don’t drop drive by with some pithy comment directed at me, then attack MY decency...

I didn’t ask you to apologize. I just wanted it in a more relevant thread so those of us (and there’s more than me) can use this thread for its own purpose.

Schefty declined to name names, but said this would be "the greatest buyers market in the history of free agency"

Not enough picks in the world that would get me to trade for the guy I called overrated last week.

I don’t understand. If I were a GM or Owner, I wouldn’t trade a top 5 QB for anything but another top 5 QB.
1st round picks have a 53% success rate and looking over the last 15 years on 1st round QBs in the first is abysmal.
