NFL Off-Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So a shitty local sports station interviewed the worst head coach in NFL history. Here are some tidbits:

.@huejack10 on being blamed for Browns losing seasons "I think I became the fall guy because that was the narrative."

.@huejack10 "There's no doubt I was lied to by ownership and leadership of the team."

.@huejack10 "After 0-16 and no one knows this, I was given a contract extension." I got a contract extension at 1-23, midway through the season. I wanted to go public with it but the #Browns didn't.

.@huejack10 on Cody Kessler "You think I didn't know who that player was...was I happy with that pick? Absolutely not. That's what analytics drafts."

.@huejack10 on Todd Haley as Offensive Coordinator "I think it was the biggest mistake I ever made...that was a bad marriage. I never should have done that (hired Haley)."

Jackson on his relationship with Baker Mayfield and Baker disliking him: To this day I will never understand it. I was part of the reason he was the #1 pick. I didn't spend a lot of time with Baker, we had a QB coach and coordinator. #Browns

I do believe Todd Haley was forced on Hue. And I will always believe Haley took the job, expecting Hue to get fired midseason and thinking he'd be able to take over as HC and rehab his ability to be a HC.

The conspiracy theorist in me believe he held back some of the playbook in '18, ready to fully unleash it after Hue was fired, so when they succeeded, he could say, "Look, it was Hue holding us back all along".

If Hue could have blamed the hiring of Haley on someone else, he would have. But he seems to concede that it was his own poor decision.

So on one of the football podcasts I listen to, the host pointed out that Kansas City signed Sammy Watkins to a bigger contract than Allen Robinson (who was a free agent the same year), drafted Mecole Hardman over DK Metcalf, and drafted CEH over Jonathan Taylor, JK Dobbins, and D'Andre Swift.

We should be thanking our lucky stars they fucked up like that, because the AFC window is wide open right now.

You know my favorite Chiefs front office fuck-up?

They traded their 2019 first, and a 2020 second, for franchise-tagged Frank Clark.

When you give up major assets like that for a player who's not locked into a contract, you have to pay twice. First, the draft assets to get the player, then second, you have to overpay the contract because the player and his agent both KNOW you can't just let him walk after this year after giving up all those assets for him. See: Laremy Tunsil in Houston..

Frank Clark's cap hits over the next three seasons? 25.8M, 26.3M, 27.8M.

Imagine staring at his injury-guaranteed 25.8 cap hit this year, seeing the next two years, and realizing that you PAID for this privilege.

Not a bad deal for each organization.

I think the Panthers are building a strong team over there. They're quietly feeling very much like the NFC Colts to me.

Man, I disagree I think.

This deal is a lot if you’re saying we don’t know if Darnold isn’t your future QB. That Teddy deal was dog shit, and Darnold can’t be the backup when you need to make an opinion decision and you paid this much.

I also don’t think you can pay this much, and say, one of the five QBs is there at 8. Like why wouldn’t you take 5 years versus two, and keep everything else?

How are they going to protect a QB?

LT - Cam Erving
LG - Dennis Daley
C - Matt Paradis
RG - Pat Elflein
RT - Taylor Moton

Idk, I think they'll need quite a bit of YoY improvement from adding Erving/Elflien and I'm just not sure those guys are the impact players needed to do it.

Lol, I'm pretty sure my QB list in the 2018 draft was:
1. Josh Rosen
2. Sam Darnold
3. Baker Mayfield
4. Josh Allen
5. Lamar Jackson

I'm such an idiot.
Eh. Allen and Jackson landed in perfect spots for them. Franchises that were already in good shape and willing to let the young QB develop.
