Carr is a tough one for me to judge. He makes some nice throws from time to time, but much of the rest of the time he stares down his first read (usually Waller), and if that's not there he either takes a sack, throws it away, or forces a bad throw.

However, Gruden's offense also looks vanilla much of the time. They've got Henry Ruggs, one of the fastest guys in the NFL, and they basically never get him the ball in space, and the offense doesn't seem to scheme guys open either the way ours does constantly.

I pretty much agree with the list Rafters made. I'd take all of those guys above Carr in a heartbeat. Well, not Watson, but not because he's a worse quarterback. He's just a piece of shit I wouldn't want anywhere near my team at this point.

No the passing stats love Lamar Jackson, aside from raw number of attempts and total passing yards. He's ahead of Carr in QBR.


But if we're gonna just toss all of the stats out the window then I'm not sure what we're basing this on. If it's just wins and losses then I don't know why Matt Ryan or Matt Stafford would be considered better QBs than Carr at this point.

It's watching them play and picking who you'd rather have to win games in the NFL.

What six names are you knocking off that list in order to shoehorn Carr into the top 10?

Right now I'm taking him ahead of Stafford, Ryan, Mayfield, and Herbert.

So I guess, gun to my head, I'd have him 11th.

Seems insane to me to take him over Mayfield when one guy has won a playoff game in his first three years and one guy has made the postseason once in seven years and lost in round one.

You don't. Stafford is better than Carr. Herbert almost certainly is too, although we only have one year worth of data to go on.

Carr, to me, is just a guy.

I think the only one in that list that anyone could even make the smallest case for is Matt Ryan--and I think that all of Matt Ryan's bad traits Derek Carr embodies as well. Maybe you could say Carr is more mobile/athletic than Ryan, but that's about it.

If it were five years ago, Matt Ryan without question. The only reason it's a debate is because Ryan is 36 and starting to look it.

I'd also rather have Lawrence, Wilson, Lance, Fields, and Mac Jones than Carr. Those guys have upside. Maybe they bust, maybe not, but we know who Carr is at this point. I'd rather roll the dice on a young, promising QB than stick with a guy who can reliably get you to .500 but is nothing special.

I mean this just lacks context.

Mayfield plays behidn the best line in football with the best running game in football and isn't asked to do nearly as much as most of hte rest of the top QBs??

Pretty sure Carr looks better with this Browns offense than Mayfield would.

Oh agreed--those 15 were my "no doubt."

I'd take Trevor, Wilson, Lance, Fields over Carr. I'm not sure about Mac Jones. I'd put Jones/Cousins/Carr/Tua around each other.

I'm fairly confident that "Carr looks better with this Browns offense than Mayfield" is an atrocious take. Derek Carr can't make the throws Baker can. He doesn't have the accuracy of Baker either.

You want to take someone in the top 15, swap their teams, and hope for better results and I think Tannehill is your best bet.

Agreed--using a team accolade (winning a playoff game) as the sole means to evaluate an individual player is lazy and dumb.

Stafford, much like Mayfield, has far more arm talent than Carr will ever have.

It really depends what you personally value — for whatever reason. I’ve always admired Stafford for being as tough as he is — performing rather well on some absolutely abysmal teams with horrendous coaching. You could argue has had a similar experience, but Stafford’s career was wasted like no other by Detroit.

I understand I’m not presenting measurable or tangible — or really anything if value. But I think Stafford is the better head to heard overall talent.
