2021 RCF Mock Draft: Discussion, Trades and Miscellany

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
@Coyote850 and @WellYouNeednt fantastic picks. Sermon and Gillespie were possibly my two highest rated players left on the board.

I think Tyree Gillespie is an absolute stud if you use him correctly. If you're a team who has problems covering tight end, Gillespie covered Kyle Pitts better than anyone else in the country.

If he pans out, the Rams may have just replaced John Johnson.

Trey Sermon, among some, is the #1 RB in the class. Just throwing that one out there... Matt Waldman has him #1, and I'm pretty sure he's one of the best scouts available to the public, and his forte is running backs. Incredible value at the end of the fourth.

I don't know if this link works, but here's Waldman breaking down the running backs of this year, and pimping Trey Sermon... pretty sure he directly compares him to CEH in favorable light:

Matt Waldman also said that Hakeem Butler was the best WR he's ever scouted, so I tend to take his ratings with an entire shaker of salt.

To be fair, I see him as two things:

1) An awesome baseline. It's hard to get as much info as you can get out of the RSP. If you read through it, you're ahead of 99% of people out there.
2) He actually has a pretty good eye for running backs.

If I wanted WR breakdown, I definitely wouldn't look to him. I'd probably go for like Matt Harmon first.

I'll never say Waldman has the best eye on an individual player. But, I do think he puts in an absurd amount of work, and just using him as a way to understand basics about players is a really useful tool.

(To Waldman's credit, I know he was crazy high on Justin Jefferson last year, and look how he panned out... he also prefaces every RSP talking specifically about linear ranks, grades, numbers, and why they suck. He says, specifically, you should use his information to just talk about players' traits and abilities, and at most, just have them in tiers. The only reason he gives a grade is because people demand it)

I mean, Jefferson was a consensus first round pick that basically everyone was high on. Most had him ranked third behind Lamb and Jeudy last year. I don't really give much credit for analysts being high on first round graded guys.

I traded up in the first of our mock last year to get Jefferson. That doesn't make me some super genius scout. Everyone knew Jefferson was gonna be good.

Can we also acknowledge that @JDailey23 can't count. pick 159 <> pick 148 + 1 :chuckle:

J/K - I'm just glad it wasn't me. Also, glad you're vax'd - fuck the 'rona!

Also, I'd like to add that I've really enjoyed this over the last couple weeks. Watching the draft is gonna be a lot more fun. Thanks to all who've organized it and kept it moving.

Kendrick Green from Illinois wasn't going to make it past the 49ers in a few picks. He was their top target for a while now. Great pick.
After I wasn’t able to get Trey Smith, I thought Green was a great consolation prize.

Funny enough, I’ve been in bed all day from my 2nd Covid vaccine & was worried I was going to be the one to repick someone :chuckle:

I don't expect Marshall to be a good fit for the Lions, but I do think he's someone to keep an eye on for the Browns in the later rounds, given his crazy athletic gifts.
