2021 RCF Mock Draft: Discussion, Trades and Miscellany

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
First Round Best Picks: Joe Tryon (@Randolphkeys ) and Teven Jenkins (@Coyote850). These are not only two good picks, but also came before these guys (specifically Jenkins) got the sort of buzz they now have.

Worst first round pick: Najee Harris (@PITCavsFan ). Pittsburgh is seriously deficient along the offensive line, and ignoring that to draft another running back is neglectful.

Second Round Best Pick: Levi Onwuzirke (@SuperSurge) (Freiermuth, Leatherwood, Cosmi all get special note as well)

Worst: None. I wanted to put Jamin Davis, but if there's one spot who can develop an athletic linebacker like Jamin, it's the NYJ with DC Jeff Ulbrich. I still think he's overdrafted due to questionable tape and great workouts, but this is the best landing spot for him in the league.

Third Round best picks... there's a lot of them. Richie Grant, Creed Humphrey, Kelvin Joseph, Landon Dickerson, Alim McNeil... pretty much too many good picks to name. I honestly question if we fucked this draft up because I might prefer the third round to the second round. But, best pick goes to Quinn Meinerz and @CosmoKramer

Fourth round, and the best pick of the entire draft: Brady Christensen @AZ_ . The tackle has an outside shot to go in the first round, and he was on the board at 106. Bravo.

Fifth round: Charles Snowden and @sportscoach gets the nod here from me for the best pick in the round.

I typically do not feel it's useful to grade our mock drafts until after the real draft has been completed. Anything written right now is just my opinion against yours. Yawn.

But I can give out a personalized award by round, again in my opinion.

Round One Brass Balls Award:

23.New York Jets (from Seattle) @adam81king Caleb Farley; CB; Virginia Tech

I think it was clutch to take the gamble on Farley because at the time, most of the internet was trying to figure out if his back is healthy. I believe his back is going to be fine and this will be a great value.

Round Two Crystal Balls Award:

51. Washington Football Team @Jordan Davis Mills, QB, Stanford

I remember this pick being sent to me in PM and thinking it would lead to ridicule. Sure enough, a full page of comments followed. Guess what? I'm seeing Mills mocked as high as the Bears at 20 since then. Ballsy!

Round Three Blackball Award:

Tied: 75. Dallas Cowboys @SuperSurge Baron Browning, LB, The Ohio State University and 85. Tennessee Titans @Amherstcavsfan Paulson Adebo, CB, Stanford

These are two players who are immensely talented. I have always felt balls should come in pairs, if possible. They both blew up athletic testing and several websites love them in round two. On RCF, however, they are polarizing. Browning left a lot of Buckeye fans salty and Adebo caught flack for sitting out. I'm interested to see what happens in the real draft. RCF has been salty for all the wrong reasons before.

Round Four Value-balls Award:

111. Cincinnati Bengals @JDailey23 Trey Smith. OG , Tennessee
144. Kansas City Chiefs @Coyote850 Trey Sermon, RB, Ohio State

Feels like the great franchises squeeze day two value out of this round year after year. I thought these were day two players at positions of need. I considered Smith in the end of the second round and Sermon was a victim of everybody forgetting about the running back position for a round or so.

Round Five Achy-Breaky Balls Award:

151. Carolina Panthers @G00seY3 Kendrick Green, IOL, Illinois and 171. Minnesota Vikings (from Baltimore) @Falb7 Trill Williams, DB, Syracuse

I wanted to draft both of these players with the treasure trove of 5th round picks I needed to make on behalf of the Bills and 49ers, but they went off the board right before I went on the clock. Both players would make fine Cleveland Browns.

Don't break my balls
my achy-breaky balls
I don't think they'd understand...

Great draft everybody, thanks for putting up with constant harassment when you were on the clock.

Here to defend my honor...haha

This pick was made thinking its what the Steelers will do based on all the signs they've put out. Could be smoke, but Tomlin tends to prefer a workhorse back and I don't think they love Benny Snell or Anthony McFarland.

I wouldve preferred OL in the first, but I didn't think 1 of the top 3 backs would make it to 55. Steelers aren't in the position to be spending assets to move up.

I'll take the credit for Trill, so thanks! LOL

Again, thanks for putting this together. I'm excited for this week.

Go Brownies!

Hey man, someone had to wear the honors. If a RB goes in the first round, that GM is probably going to be questioned--and a RB probably does go in the first.

Your explanation makes sense.

You made that trade very late and I forgot to switch the teams. Appreciate it!

I'll give you credit for Creed Humphrey in the 3rd...crazy good value there. I almost took him in the 2nd. No way he makes it that far this week.

I'm pretty happy with the way KC's draft panned out. If the AFC champs have that good (lucky) a draft they will be in damn good shape for a couple more years.

I do want to say that I wouldn't have picked the 49ers as my team if I knew they would trade up to #3 and publicly support Mac Jones. I'm pulling for the Trey Lance option for upside, but in my bones I'm feeling like this wasn't a smokescreen.

Only two days until Kyle Shanahan lays a wet fart in the open mouths of Bay Area football fans.

To me Justin Fields is the perfect fit in SF. And I might be wrong, God knows I have been in the past. But if SF passes on Fields they WILL regret it.

What did Saban do against Fields? Blitz the shit out of him.

What did Fields do?

Implode.

Lance is raw, but he doesn't panic in the pocket.

And..........where did Lance lead his team..............? He did not get the chance to implode............

Lance looks to check down much better in the games he played, and they are equals in breaking off the pass and just running.

The problem with Lance is missing easy check down throws in accuracy. Fields just doesn't know what to do at all.

At least, that's my assessment. I prefer Lance if I had a veteran for another year and I had to choose between the two.

Mac Jones steps up into the B gap between the center and guard everytime he feels pressure and NFL defenses will key on that immediately.

I'm taking Fields for overall talent and experience in the big game. Call it a gut feeling........is what it is............

With the 2023 mock draft sign-ups underway, I felt it would be a good time to bump old mock drafts for posterity.
