2021 Series #10 | Indians @ Royals | May 3-6, 2021

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He turned his ankle sliding into second, but stayed in the game.
That's one intense guy, I hope he ends up in a comfortable situation and blossoms this year.

That would account for a combined 2 IP (3 IP if we are lucky) & probably toward the later part of the game.
Assuming Hentges goes 3 IP, we are up to 6 for the game on Tues..

Cal Q/ Maton/ Stephens need to carry the baton from Sam to Sandlin & Wittgren.

On a different topic:
I was honestly surprised Kyle Nelson was sent out today (as Franmil was activated from the paternity list). Now the only LHP on the pitching staff is Sam Hentges. I had thought it might be Maton heading out..
well of course they wouldn't be the only ones.. Quantrill makes a lot of sense to follow Hentges. Stephan should get some work to I think. Depends on the score.

Jose, Franmil, and Naylor are some kind of hot right now.

In his last six games, Naylor is batting .364 with a homer, four doubles, one walk and 3 Ks....and a 1.056 OPS.

Who said we should cut Naylor? I never understood the hate. He is 23 years old, he is getting it figured out.

I'm not sure that he is getting things figured out.

I think its more that he is finally getting rewarded. He has blistered the ball since opening day.

But he is 23, no way this is his best. I like him, but he will getter better most likely, like a decent amount better right?

If he keeps hitting the ball like he has been, and using the same approach, he is gonna put up some very good numbers.

His EV, launch angle, and hard hit rate are all well over what he has done in the past...and he has hit balls almost equally to all fields. As we have seen so far, he has doubles power to all fields. A doubles power hitter who can't be shifted on is a difficult hitter to defend.

And he is only 23, lol

Managing the pen for the rest of this series is gonna be tricky.

A lot depends upon both Hentges and TMac. But perhaps just as much depends upon our offense.

If we hit Minor, a lefty, early and often, it would give Tito some wiggle room with Hentges, who can probably throw 65-70 pitches, if he doesn't get bombed.

Hentges threw 53 pitches in three innings vs the Twins. He gave up three earned runs. So far this season, he hasn't walked anybody. If he can survive going thru the order twice in four innings and the bats score early, we'd be in pretty good shape to win the game against their pen...with Biebs going the next day.

I liked acquiring him, but don't want to get carried away. This season is still a small sample size, and pitchers will adjust...and there will be bumps in the road.

However, IMO he looks like he's gonna be pretty good.

Now, if they'd just stick him at first base, and leave him there...

Oh, it's time. It HAS to be time. The only downside is blocking Bradley, and that's not a major downside.
Then, let's drop a 1B and a MI and get a genuine CF (backup at least) before Tito starts sticking Eddie Rosario out there.

Yessir, Henry Ramirez sure solves a lot of problems!

Yeah, the middle of the lineup is carrying the offense; we're getting nothing from the bottom third except when Naylor hits 7th.

Hernandez had three walks, a line drive single that almost took the pitcher's head off, and a 400-foot drive to the warning track in center that just missed being a triple on a leaping catch. In five plate appearances I didn't see him chase one bad pitch and he took some close ones. Seems like he's seeing the ball really well. Maybe our leadoff situation is about to improve.

The other night Amed Rosario had three hits - all to center or right field. Last night he grounded to the shortstop three times, lined out to center, and hit a sharp ground ball to right that Merrifield got with a dive and threw him out. IOW, he hit the ball hard going to center and right and rolled over three times when he pulled it. If I were Amed, who is now hitting .197, I would be waiting as long as possible and trying to drive the ball to right, just like Franmil, who had two oppo doubles last night.

I agree, it's very encouraging, but he needs to be a little more selective. He chases too many pitches out of the zone or on the margins early in the count.

If Perez’s finger is gonna cause him to hit even worse than he already was (didn’t think that was possible, but he still has better numbers than Grandal :chuckle:) we gotta roll with Hedges.
