Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The dude is 8-83. Austin Hedges looks like Rod Carew compared to him right now. Would you be happy with the Tribe keeping a guy like that in the lineup regardless of his prospect ranking?
Owen Miller is well on the way to 8-83.

Sarcasm, meet TxBuckeye. TxBuckeye, meet sarcasm. :) I was poking fun at the veiled threats by his agent when Kelenic was sent down to start the year, who claimed that Kelenic was sent down because he refused to sign a long-term deal the club offered before he even made his debut. Maybe it played a role, maybe it didn't, but Kelenic had never played above AA and the Mariners were perfectly justified in wanting him to get some AAA ABs before calling him up, regardless of how good he looked in spring training against the B squads every team seemed to run out there this spring. In some cases, the manipulation is obvious and should be called out, but with Kelenic I agreed with him getting some AAA time first.

You got me. I completely forget about that incident.

It's all good, I guess I assumed most remembered the drama surrounding his original situation. And MLB and the union have to come up with a solution, because teams manipulating service time are hurting the game imo. I'm for a 10/6 clock (10 years of pro ball time or 6 years of big league service time for 18 yr olds, 12/6 for 16 yr olds), whichever comes first, but that's too simple and both sides will find ways to manipulate that unfortunately.

I dont have much of a problem with manipulation of service time, and I don't think it hurts the game...for several reasons.

1) Do we really want a system in which the player and agent decide when its time to play with the Big Boys? If so, I'm hiring an agent and declaring myself ready.

2) How often do those whose service time has been 'manipulated' come out of the gate as immediate all stars? Not nearly as many who struggle early on.

3) Would you rather watch a more mature, experienced player produce...or a kid struggle for a year or two.

The game of baseball isn't better because because kids like Amed and even JRam played in MLB before they were absolutely ready.

4) Getting prospects up earlier, along with the connected push to shorten the amount of time to arby and free agency, will really hurt smaller market teams ability to compete. We see the Tribe trading better players just as they reach arby. Gee, I wonder what will happen if arby begins earlier.

5) I'm a union guy, but the Players Association has no interest in making the game better. The only interest they have in this is to get players to MLB as fast as possible and get them to free agency as early as possible, so that there is more money spent on the back end for players. You dont...and won't...see the PA willing to trade some of the back end pay for the youngsters to get to big earnings quicker.

6) One thing that will happen is that the risk for young players will drop significantly, because they will have less time to wait..while at the same time their earnings will rise well before free agency. Why would any young, decent MLB player ever sign a long term contract that possibly reduces his career earnings, if the risk of injury is significantly reduced and his present earnings are higher? The math will be totally changed.
