2021 Series #30 | Rays @ Indians | July 22-25

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm with CATS on this one. It's not like the obvious moves change much of anything anyway, and they are not going to trade for a rental unless they agree to an extension. The only circumstance that would allow that to happen is if the rental costs little to nothing. Cron is an example of that.

I'm not ready to throw the towel in just yet.

He has a good swing and real good power for an infielder. Defensively he is sound and versitile. He's a good athlete and intelligent. A fresh start will probably be good for him and he's not going to get it with Cleveland.

@Kevalier

I agree here on Chang... I think he will be a big league guy once he finds a spot where he is the everyday guy, not just a situational one...

While many have written off this season, apparently the team hasn't.

We just split six games out west vs two of the four/five best teams in the league. At the moment we are ahead of one of the others. This is the stretch where most felt that the team would plunge into baseball oblivion.

Many may not care about 2021, but I do. A season of contention is never a sure thing, and one should never be wasted.
If by your own admission we are contending then the season to date is per your definition not wasted. So then the concern is what? That we’re only contending because we have Cesar or Eddie or Shaw? Or that we’d no longer be if we trade them? Every single move we’ve made the last 2-3 years just told us what the orgs mindset was for this season. I don’t understand changing that course because we are 4-5 games back of the 2nd wild card. I’m glad the actual players haven’t written off the season despite the orgs long term moves. But I never expected them to.

Chang seems like the kindest guy in the world, but he appears to be a Quad A player now and going forward. I sincerely wish him the very best in his career though.

I don't want to throw in the towel either, but we are a bit of a ways back, and we need to see ABs from guys too. I am not against moving Hernandez, Eddie, Wittgren etc, but I hope we can maybe trade a couple prospects for an OF with long term control type... Adding and subtracting to stay in the race essentially.

Isn't it about time for BB to tag one? Seems like it's been a minute.

So close to i t, cdav.. just a bit in front of the ball.. and he k's..

Thought I called one for a second there, and then........

I don't feel like Chang really got a legit chance in 20 and 21 honestly... He's been solid of late with the bat and I think that bat is who we will see going forward. I think he takes off on another roster though...

If we continue to be competitive thru the next week, selling off our assets for lower level prospects is wasting the possibility of contending in September...and the farther into this stretch of games vs contenders we remain competitive, the more the schedule begins to favor us even more.

It would be much better for my innards if Quantrill quit allowing leadoff base runners.

I swear this kid's childhood idol was Bob Wickman.

It's not just that we're five back. There are five wild card teams ahead of us. That's 8 of the 15 teams in the league ahead of us. It feels like our record has been an overachievment so far and we're currently below average.

If you want to be optimistic, go for it--but I still prefer to use this time to set ourselves up for future success instead of pretending that we can be successful both today and tomorrow.

This is where CATS and I may have a different view if I'm understanding him correctly. I don't think that selling off any of Cesar, Eddie, Wittgren, Shaw, Luplow, and excess MIF prospects removes the chances of being competitive this season. In fact, I believe that this team could be improved in the "here and now" and going forward. I'd have to see the return(s).
