Incredibly exciting and frustrating game. Everybody in the lineup got 1 or 2 hits. Everybody had 1 or 2 RBI's except Straw. Nobody had a huge night at the dish but everybody chipped in and the result was 12 runs. Is that a season high?
As good as the offense was the pitching was just as bad, Sandlin and Garza excepted. I really like Garza and want to see a lot more of him now that Maton is gone.
Shaw has now allowed 14 hits in his last six appearances. Tonight it was home run, bloop double, line drive single, line drive off Miller's glove, and line drive to Mercado. One bloop, one home run, and three line drives. He might be done.
I was hoping McKenzie would have a second consecutive strong start, but he's not there yet. It's one good, one bad, or one good and two bad. I'm hoping by September he'll be able to have two decent starts for every shitty one. Tonight he simply could not throw his slider anywhere near the zone and had to come in with fastballs, which the Sox were sitting on. All three home runs were on fastballs.
Zavala became the first player in major league history to hit his first three career home runs in the same game. And they still lost.
Harold is not that bad a defensive player in left field. He made a great catch just as he slammed into the wall to save a couple of runs with Sandlin pitching. At the plate it was nice to see him get a couple of balls in the air, resulting in two doubles. He hits too many ground balls.
The mind-boggling defensive gaffes continue. Miller dropped an easy line drive and Amed let Abreu's ground ball get by him.
In his last two games, Karinchak has retired one batter while allowing 5 hits, 5 runs, walking one, and beaning Abreu. He's been a disaster along with Shaw.
Congrats to Owen Miller on his first major league home run. He also worked a walk to keep the big inning going, which was the 6th inning, of course. Now work on catching line drives, dude.
I was impressed that a second baseman was able to take a breaking ball on the outside corner at the knees and hit it over the center field wall. Later he got jammed on a fastball and still hit it to the warning track in right. This kid has some pop.
