2021 Series #33 | Indians @ Blue Jays | Aug. 2-5

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
After a pathetic start Miller is showing a little something at the plate but his so so glove and poor throws should be a concern.
We’re not talking Knoblauch bad.

I think once Miller gets settled in, i feel his defense will start improving as well...

musta been the apples and oranges and cherry stats tree - zimmer over the last 30 days is 309/815
Good point. Both these guys are starting to show what they can do with regular playing time.

And while we're at it...Harold is at .232/.540 over the last 30 days.

Awfully critical of Owen Miller here.

Only 48 AAA games and 22 ML games under his belt. He is a fairly finished product, but let's at least give him a fair shake.

He was never considered a glove first guy and should be an OK (average) 2B guy.. Or a quality fielder at 1st.

His range and arm strength have been questioned but if you look at his minor league numbers, he doesn't make a lot of errors so from that track record, I believe that in due time he will go back to the lower range guy who doesn't make errors like he was in the minors.

i'm willing to move on from harold - haha

we - or I - forget that mercado wasnt just a late season callup in '19 - he got 500 plate appearances - heck of a lot for a guy in his first go-round - and produced 269/318/443/761 - ops+ of 95 - i kinda considered that a base - didnt think he'd turn into the next .300 hitter for the indians but maybe settle somewhere in the .750 -.800 ops range - nice athlete - nice fielder - that he totally disappeared as a hitter in '19 and even in columbus this season is odd to me - his ops+ in 20 was 100 points below his 19 number - his numbers this season (only 90 PAs) are similar except for missing some oomph - turns 27 in a couple months - still a couple years away from arby - he stays

Zimmer soon to turn 29 and arby eligible this off season is doing as well as he's ever done - high obp - 685 ops - ops+ 89 - as a pitching first organization, i think i would rather have him as my backup (or late inning) outfielder than hramirez - perhaps this is where amed fits - 698 ops also at 89 --- maybe in both zimmer and amed's case $ will factor in with our organization that watches every penny

and would still like to see a trade - or free agent signing - to bring in a real ml outfielder

People run hot and cold. They beg for Miller and then want to discard him after his first rough stretch of games.

Miller just seems like someone who, at the moment, strikes out too much against good pitching for the kind of mediocre power that he has. I hope he proves me wrong but he either has to develop additional power or make more contact.

The contact route seems more likely but he actually struck out more in his 2nd stint than his 1st stint in AAA so I don't see that really happening in 2021.

Both Mercado and Owen Miller are showing signs of relaxing at the dish while slowing the game down.. moreso for Miller.. Mercado's bat appears to be getting a LOT quicker..
I'll be surprised if Miller doesn't end up being the hitter that we expected him to be when initially called up.

The thing about Oscar is that he hits the ball well when his swing is short and to the ball. The problems start when he allows it to get long and loopy. If you made me choose an OFer to keep out of Mercado, Zimmer, Naylor, and HRam it would be Mercado. The problem with that is I see him as a CFer and I think we have that covered now.

McKenzie better be able to locate all of his pitches or he'll get lit up tonight. I'm not expecting a good night so hopefully I'm pleasantly surprised.

In the minors he was a heavy contact hitter... He was never above 20% really in the minors. So that amount of strikeouts was more an anomaly than what would normally happen...

That happened in AA at best. This year he's over 25% in AAA. The anomaly at this point would be him showing that he can hit good pitching. Maybe he can do it but it's probably not going to happen overnight. Hopefully his reps now will help him do that.

Look at his numbers... He was 15 or less the first three seasons in the minors. He's not going to randomly start doing higher than that without something outside of his normal batting style (aka pressing)

Then find a way to make him stop pressing? I don't think there's a statistical argument to be made that he has improved significantly.
