2021 Series #34 | Tigers @ Indians | Aug. 6-8, 2021

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Down to the hardest out to get in baseball...

No idea what the velocity or spin rate was but it's nice to see Karinchak have two straight solid outings. Both against the Tigers, but still...

Nice win to take the series. Plesac didn't have it; 3 walks and a wild pitch in four innings, but the offense and the bullpen picked him up. The Tribe scored seven runs and it could have been more had they done better than 2-for-9 with RISP.

The bottom third of the batting order chipped in with three hits and three RBI's. Rookie infielders Miller and Clement combined for three hits, three runs, and two RBI's. Straw and Zimmer, who are in mainly for defense, combined for four hits and two RBI's.

This is the style of play the Indians need to win; contributions up and down the batting order. They can't count on Framil and Josie to drive in five runs every game.

Zimmer actually hit the ball like a quality corner OFer today. I know it's the lowly Tigers, but it was nice to see and it would be nice to see it continue. His defense in RF to go along with a good bat would make him invaluable to this team.

Plesac isn't back to form yet. More importantly I hope he learned that throwing a temper tantrum and injuring yourself isn't good for himself or the club.

Stephan wasn't sharp either, but damn he's got a good arm. I think I'd still prefer to see him as a SP option.

Straw appears to be a keeper. Hats off to CA/MC for that under the radar acquisition.

Everyone here knows how highly I think of Miller, be he appears to still be a bit off his game. It appears, to me anyway, that he is being over aggressive. I think he'll be fine in short order.

Really grasping for Straw's here

Dont agree.

When it comes to Zimmer, trading for Myles was the Straw that broke the camel's back as far as motivation.

Thought I said that earlier.

I was impressed with Miller's oppo home run. Most middle infielders don't have the muscle to take it out the other way. And, yes, I know he was playing first base today.

Miller hit a home run to center earlier this week on a breaking ball down and away, barely in the zone. He has a lot more power than I thought. Can he hit well enough to be the starting 2B next year? We'll find out.

Zimmer has some interesting splits; .304/.784 at home, .188/.565 away; and .288/.752 over the last 30 days. As the #9 hitter he's batting .333/.849. He's hitting .290 with runners on, .291 with RISP, and .400 with RISP and two out (6-for-15). Small samples, but interesting. I would play Straw, Mercado, and Zimmer almost every day for the rest of the season. Put Harold in every other game for one of them.

Watching the game, Plesac wasn't sharp and he wasn't moving as well as he normally does either (maybe an issue with his leg?) He gritted it out though so that was good to see! It didn't help his defense wasn't sharp earlier either plus the ump stayed with a true strike zone for the most part... I just have a hunch if Plesac isn't sharp in his next outing, he will be put on the IL for some type of minor leg injury.

Miller's has some power which is why I have preferred him to Freeman. I think their bat to ball abilities are similar with a slight edge to Freeman. Both are very good hitters IMO.

I do think that Miller's approach in Cleveland has been untypical for him, and that as he gains more experience against major league pitching we will see him return to being a high contact, excellent hitter with a bit of power.

Clearly from now to the end of the season is a proving grounds of sorts. Guys like Zimmer and Mercado better prove themselves or they'll be looking for work.
