2021 Trade Ideas and Deadline talk!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I highly doubt that both Zimmer and Mercado survive the winter as Guardians, maybe neither. The same for Johnson.
If they're all evaluated based recent performance then I would think Zimmer is top dog, followed by Mercado and Johnson is the odd man out.

Zimmer, Mercado, Johnson or O. Gonzalez, Benson, Kwan? Who makes the 40? Probably only 2 or 3 make it with Straw, Harold, Naylor as locks.

Johnson has an option left, the other two don't, so they're playing for their 2022 spots as Guardians

Does the combination of Straw, HRam, and Naylor give you a warm fuzzy feeling? We'll be lucky to see Naylor start the season and reality suggests that he might not be able to run as well as he did prior to the injury. Not that he was a burner or anything.

Right now I'm holding out hope for Jones, but he sure seems like a lighter hitting BB to me. If this organization truly wants a good corner OFer next season there is basically 2 ways to make it happen and it doesn't make sense to rob Peter to pay Paul IMO.

Straw's SB rate is exceptional.

80% in MLB....80% in MiLB.

His success rate has been exactly the same...80%...as Kenny Lofton's.

No way is he Lofton, but his rate is the same in an era when they don't run nearly as much.

Some quick math indicates his SBs were added to his total bases, and his caught stealing were subtracted from his BA, Straws OPS rises 45 points, which puts his career OPS at .704.

The comparison to Leonys Martin is close to spot on. Later in his career Martin developed a little pop, but Straw is a better base thief.

Of course, Martin cost $3 mil per year for us. Straw is pre arb and under control for four more years

Is none of the above an option?

Chang needs to get off the 40 man for starters. Better not lose a kid because of him.

Naylor will stay on the 60 day dl meaning they don’t have to 40 man him. I do think he has long term potential.

im not sure Harold is a lock for the 40 either.

There is no 60 day IL roster exemption after the World Series/ until spring training…Naylor would move back on to the 40 man roster.

@Alabuckeye

Think about how the Orioles had to move Antony Santander back & forth (onto/ off of) the 60 day IL/ 40 man roster as they were stashing him away for a couple of seasons. Same general thing is in play here for Josh Naylor. I just hope CLE only has to maneuver for 1 off season instead of 2 like Baltimore.
