2021 Trade Ideas and Deadline talk!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
A Plesac trade better get some level of MLB experience in return.
Not only should there be some level of MLB experience, but a SP prospect as well. I'd consider Yaz and Corry for Plesac. If they wanted to expand the deal to include Bart I'd be open to that if they wanted Amed or a SS/2B prospect not named Gimenez, Arias, or Freeman.

Did you see the one I posted last night? What did ya think of that one?

I was thinking of something more along these lines:

Sorry but that trade does little to improve the Guardians in 2022. And what message does it send to Bo Naylor, a 2018 first round pick? A high schooler has less than three years to make the MLB roster, COVID-lost years be damned.

No need to apologize. We're all entitled to our thoughts.

Bart likely improves the team immediately and into the foreseeable future . Ruf gives us a 1B/OF backup for Bradley. He's a rental, but a cheap one. Beck can certainly help by next season and fits in well with Cantillo, LT Allen, and Burns.. Corry fits in with Espino, Torres, Vargas, Hankins, Williams and a couple others.

I had similar thoughts. How often is a contending team shipping out a starting pitcher(especially with their #1 on the DL) at the trade deadline for 'prospects'? Really a bizarre move from an angle ignorant of the TB team.
They are facing rule 5 issues as well in the offseason.

So why Ruf? I can deal with the pitchers, but I do like Hjelle, a 6'11 pitcher with command, and I am sure can add a bit of velo still... I am surprised you want an old man when you don't like veterans :p

Now why would we also get 4 players who have to be added to the 40 man roster. I purposely targeted a couple players who don't need to be added to the 40 man and Wyatt is compared to Brandon Belt and a type of player you wanted the other day since you don't like our 1B depth in the minors.

I don't think the Giants will trade Bart and Corry btw... They will move one SP not two for Plesac, they have too many short term SPs at the moment, so replacing one with one makes more sense...

Honestly, I don't really care about Ruf. I'd just like to see a 1B option acquired and he's having a decent season. I could take him or leave him. Wyatt is too far off for me to be interested dealing Plesac for. Noel is basically on the same level as Wyatt.

Ruf would obviously come off before the rule V deadline.

If the Giants won't come off of Bart and/or Corry then they don't get Plesac. It's that simple. The Guardians are looking to give Zach away.

Bart is available, but I don't think Corry is since they don't have a ton of pitching depth and he is a legit potential as a starter from the left side. Hence why I targeted Hjelle and Wyatt is actually ahead of Noel when it comes to his development. Wyatt also has a higher floor, lower ceiling profile, so the profiles fit differently and their secondary positions are different as well

Let me put it this way. If this team were rebuilding then I'd agree with your idea, but we're not and trading away a big piece like Plesac needs to reap immediate dividends. It's not like Plesac is expensive and needs to be dealt. To move him for a package that may come to fruition 2-3 yrs down the road makes very little sense IMO. Might as well trade JRam too if that's the route we're taking, but I don't for one second believe that it is.

Bart made his MLB debut, Hjelle is ahead of Corry and Beck (he will finish in AAA this year)... Wyatt will finish the year at AA, Artega is the one that's farther away, but Wyatt nor Artega need to be protected next season.

You are only getting a 35 year old rental as an immediate return... I'd rather have an 18 year old who has a plus contact bat and is an above average fielding SS... Not sure why you would swap out a 35 year old for an 18 year old. Personally I dont think your move improves us enough to merit losing an 18 year old player...

Just my opinion, but yours would actually take longer to see more out of than mine since Bart and Hjelle will both be factors in 22...

I'm not familiar with the Giants' prospects but after losing three starters this season on top of season ending injuries in recent years to Kluber, Clevinger, and Carrasco I'm very reluctant to trade a good young starter who is affordable and under team control for several more years. Look at some of the starters we've had this year and their ERA's. Morgan, Mejia, Allen, Hentges, McKenzie...and none of them ready for the bigs. We should try to go into each season with eight major league caliber starters and pray that will be enough. We can't do that if we trade one or two starters every year.

Look around the league - starters are dropping like flies. There's a reason we drafted 20 pitchers with our 21 picks. Another team outdid us - every pick was a pitcher. Guys like Plesac are worth their weight in gold to a cheap franchise like this.

Unless the trade is based on inside information that Plesac is a head case and they want to move him before his value plummets I say keep him and try to develop six more like him.
