2021 Trade Ideas and Deadline talk!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm not familiar with the Giants' prospects but after losing three starters this season on top of season ending injuries in recent years to Kluber, Clevinger, and Carrasco I'm very reluctant to trade a good young starter who is affordable and under team control for several more years. Look at some of the starters we've had this year and their ERA's. Morgan, Mejia, Allen, Hentges, McKenzie...and none of them ready for the bigs. We should try to go into each season with eight major league caliber starters and pray that will be enough. We can't do that if we trade one or two starters every year.

Look around the league - starters are dropping like flies. There's a reason we drafted 20 pitchers with our 21 picks. Another team outdid us - every pick was a pitcher. Guys like Plesac are worth their weight in gold to a cheap franchise like this.

Unless the trade is based on inside information that Plesac is a head case and they want to move him before his value plummets I say keep him and try to develop six more like him.

Essentially the original Idea is how we could get Bart from the Giants, and if we want to do that, we would have to trade Plesac... Since the Giants are wanting to win over the Dodgers, and Bart is a high prospect, he won't be parted with easily. It's possible we could ask for more than what I or @CDAV45 stated, but Plesac plus a maybe player or two(I did Hernandez) for 4 (+ or - 1) prospects, Including Bart, would be the likely scenario. It's very unlikely it would happen, but if it did, it would be something similar to the style one of us posted...

I agree with this. I'm not saying I wouldn't deal Plesac, but he would have to be pried from my kung fu grip because his value, especially to this organization, almost makes the cost to acquire him unrealistic.

Due to financial problems we had no choice but to trade Kluber, Bauer, Clevinger, and Carrasco. We're not in that position with Bieber, Plesac, and Civale - at least not yet.

Until another wave of starters establishes themselves the way our current big three did I would not trade a starter even for a very good catching prospect. Now if Morgan, Mejia, Hentges, McKenzie and Quantrill are kicking butt by the end of this season, then by all means try and do another Joe Carter for Sandy Alomar Jr deal, only trading a pitcher this time.

Actually, Quantrill has pitched 11 innings in the last two starts allowing just two earned runs, and one was due to Johnson misplaying a single into a triple. He's improved in each of his five starts since being moved into the rotation. He's the guy I would probably dangle for a top catching prospect and throw in Rosario, Cesar, or Shaw, whatever the trading partner wants.

I’m of the mind to keep quantrill. he’s growing into our 4 starter.
Caesar, Wittgren, Rosario, Rosario, Hedges, some MiL excess? Trade ‘em
Sorry.. I cant 'see' Hedges dealt.

His lack of offense in infuriating but I much prefer him as a back-up to Sandy Leon/ Kevin P/ many others.
Roberto Perez is great with the pitching staff but (like most catchers) has a propensity to be injured. The catching prospects are still multiple seasons away so I suspect Hedges is with CLE as a bridge and then Defensive mentor to those guys when the time comes.

I feel similar with Amed Rosario. I doubt Amed plays shortstop for CLE again after this season but his ability to play in the OF (either in CF or LF) can be utilized beyond this season.

For the love of baby Jesus, I pray that Amed doesn't play a corner OF. We need someone that can carry an OPS over .700 to play the corners. Amed ain't that guy, or at least he hasn't shown to be so far. The team needs some fucking offense, and it needs it desperately. It's one of the worst offensive teams in the league and will waste a very good pitching staff if it isn't addressed.

I'm sorry. But the time for the front office to do something is now.
This is not a contender, and as soon as all the injuries hit this season, it became obvious.

But we do have some marketable players. Cesar is playing his best baseball of the year. There are movable pieces in the bullpen. Even if somebody needed depth in the OF we could help, slightly, there. We also have plenty of guys that could be Rule 5 victims next season.

If we could add ONE GUY, JUST ONE GUY who could be part of our roster for the next couple of season, it would be a success.

We have come up with a half dozen plausible trades on this board. Time for the front office to take action.

I'd flip our middle infield for any plus bat and go with Gimenez and Clement over the final 60 games. Amed and Cesar just can't defend, and it's killing our nearly dead staff.
Anybody need a ready-made keystone?

I just posted on BTV JRam for Kelenic, Haniger, and Munoz. But I don't even know if I would make that.
I don't think there's a chance in hell they trade JRam at this moment in time. They want a star to put a Guardian hat on.

Sounds more like speculation than industry rumbles but this type of speculation will continue the rest of the year and throughout the offseason unless/until an extension is worked out
I am so tired of this same ol media bull where they take Cleveland’s best player and speculate them needing to be traded. Why?!!! Why can’t we for once keep one of our stars especially one who has been consistent as jram. I want and hope he’s extended and to improve the team in other ways!

At the moment it really sounds like the plan is to extend JRam and adding an additional money and two years onto his current one is something that without a doubt can happen. If there is a snag in a JRam extension it's how many years after the two additional years they want...

Now I can pretty much guarantee JRam wouldnt be traded this season period. They want that extension and extension talks have been put on hold (at least I am 99.99999% positive on this) until the off-season. If extension talks break down and dont work out then JRam will eventually be moved in 22 to the 23 season. Don't get hopes up, but that's the scenario with JRam...

Now when it comes to anyone that's a free agent or two years left on a contract, they are fair game to be moved.... So my percentage chance of players being moved/possibly cut

JRam-less than 1% (but all players are at least that in a small market)
Plesac-Mercado-Johnson 5ish%
Amed-Chang-Zimmer-HRam-Luplow 20%
Shaw-Wittgren-DJ Johnson-Parker 60%
Hernandez-Eddie-75%

Since in my mind we went out of the race with that losing streak, I don't think Hernandez, Eddie, Wittgren, DJ Johnson (he's got that option, but I'd rather have a younger guy ya know?), Parker/Shaw all end up on the roster come July 31st...That day will be a roster shuffle day in my mind around the league.

Indians I think will move Eddie and Hernandez for players not required for Rule 5 draft next season so prospects drafted or signed after the 2019 season... The bullpen arms, for whatever they can get for them... Amed, HRam, Chang etc will be made available, but not at a price that is buyer friendly... Amed is in arbitration and if teams offer the price, it's gonna be hard to keep him since he is due (in my opinion) more than he is worth WAR wise on the field...

One player I could see a swap for is C Payton Henry of the Brewers farm system... I think they will do a Mercado type of trade (two A ball prospects for one AA/AAA prospect who is close to MLB ready)

Then other moves in my opinion...

Luplow should be back soon. Francisco Perez will be added to the 40 man. Need to leave a spot open for Cam Hill, but then they either get 2 players via waivers and/or Mercado type of swap and/or add someone to the 40 man (Brooks, Call, Oscar Gonzalez etc)

I'd love to see them move Cesar and give Clement the job for the rest of the season. Same with Eddie and Harold (although I doubt any contenders would be interested in Harold). Let Zimmer, Mercado, and Johnson play every day. Against lefties I'd put Luplow in for Zimmer and move Mercado to center.

Nobody can use Wittgren, who has fallen apart lately, but Shaw could probably be moved. I'd like to see more of Vargas. I'd put Sandlin in Shaw's spot and Vargas takes over Sandlin's role. The Sand Man has definitely earned a promotion.

I would like to see the Indians piggyback Mejia and Hentges. For example, last night Mejia started and the Rays put six left-handed hitters in the lineup. I would have let Mejia pitch the first inning and then brought in Hentges. If the Rays anticipated this and stacked their lineup with right-handers, then let Mejia go as long as he can. Righties were 1-for-9 off him last night. Nelson Cruz was 0-for-3 against him with two K's.

When Civale gets back send down Mejia. When Bieber gets back send down Morgan. With everybody back go with a rotation of Bieber, Plesac, Civale, Quantrill, and McKenzie. I'd like to see how that works.

The organization should be talking extension with JRam and if they can't get it done now, they should be shopping him now. You have a price; he has a price. They are either close enough that you will figure it out or you need to move the asset at peak value. This season is done. No reason to believe this team will be any closer to the White Sox next year, Minnesota can't be as bad again, and now Detroit is starting to gain traction.

It’s Lindor redux in the media.
