2021 Trade Ideas and Deadline talk!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't purport to understand the defensive metrics but seems weird that some think Straw is elite in CF based on metrics while others think he is awful.

Can't speak on Straw's CF defense but Astros' fans were not convinced it was even a positive:

I read the article and that was not my take away. The author seemed to state he thought Straw’s defense was lacking, but changed his opinion weeks later. It seemed to me to be more of an argument to play the other guy because he had a better bat, and was in this guy’s mind a similar, good defender. I am not sure the author is touting himself as a defensive expert in any case.

As another fan, I have watched Straw play 5 or 6 times this year and was impressed with his defense. Small sample perhaps…

Why wouldn’t we see Gimenez again? But yes I’d love to see Arias up.
Because I think the next time up he stays. Might want to give some of these other guys a bit of a look a little extra cash and a chance to play an ML game or 2 this year. That goes for Jones and Arias in particular.

As a die hard Astros fan, as I am a cavs fan, congrats on pulling Straw. I am disappointed we traded him and Torro while I'm on the subject of trades.

Straw has elite speed, great base runner, and solid defense in center field.

Thanks for the post this way!

I am happy we got him personally (but that's because he was good for me in OOTP, but that a different matter lol) Though on paper, he should be at worst a legit 4th OF type...

That may be true, but he has known this problem was coming for a year.

I have a hard time believing that given the high value that orgs place on prospects, there wasn't a trade to be made.

Besides, what is worse...over paying or getting nothing in return?

We are gonna lose talent in exchange for nothing. I'd rather overpay for some kind of upgrade.
I understand the concern but an under discussed part of the equation is that they haven’t had the full year to evaluate these guys yet. With no minor league season last year, they probably want to see as much as they can out of each player before making such an important decision about their future.

It doesn’t do much good ‘clearing out’ the 40 man if you’re clearing out the wrong guys.

We also don't have to settle the 40 man until November anyways so we can give all the guys we have a tryout and hopefully we keep the right ones in November

When initially hearing the news, I thought that was Einar Diaz

:chuckle:

I gotta stop drinking...

Well no one would blame you for drinking with how the defense has been in this inning... It's been 4 possible errors this inning in a sense

Clearly the trade deadline is an exciting time, but imagine the fun to be had if we knew the deals/offers that were declined by the FO.
