2022-2023 NBA Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Damnnn. Beverley leveled Ayton.

Good. This Phoenix team is full of bitch asses.

Now that the nice Cavs win is done, I can tune into the 2nd half of the OKC game. I'm here for all the deep analysis you never really wanted to know about Isaiah Joe, Darius Bazley, Aleksej Pokusevski, and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl.

DANG! Poku just had a monster block and then ran down the court and hit a corner 3.

He's looking more coordinated all the time. Used to be awkward af.

Great 3rd qtr for OKC. 13 point lead after being down 19 earlier in the game. Dort is drilling from downtown, SGA is a FT machine like a skinny DWade, and Junkyard Dog Chain goes to JRE tonight if they pull out the W.

Oh wait...wrong team for the chain, lol.

Jazz were losing at halftime, solely because Collin Sexton is one of the dumbest basketball players I’ve ever seen. That’s not hyperbole.

Dumb. Both ends. Conley is out, so Sexton and THT were the only point guards and THT just on brain and not being a moron was 10x the point for Utah tonight. If he had started instead of Sexton, Utah wins this game going away. But back to Bull being dumb.

Clippers kept abusing him on the defensive end. Pick n rolls and iso against our guy. Compromising the Jazz team defense and getting Vanderbilt and Olynk in foul trouble because they were thinking for him and trying to help cover his lack of thinking.

After 5 mins in the 3rd, Will Handy had seen enough so he subs Collin out for THT and the Jazz take the lead heading into the 4th. Not exaggerating. THT and the defensive collective turned the entire tide of the game and had the Clippers looking lost without Collin to pick on for easy baskets.

I’m ecstatic. This is the last leg of a 12 leg parlay that turns $2 into $750. Im giving the Jazz 3 points so I basically need them to either lose by less than 3 or win the game and I win. DraftKings offers me $500 at the start of the 4th but I’m like, nah, Utah figured this out and will probably win. Give me all of my coins.

Unexplainably, with a 4 point lead and about 10 mins left, Handy decides to give Sexton another chance.

Ty Lue goes RIGHT back to exploiting Sexton and takes the lead back by 4 with 4 mins left before Handy takes Sexton out and spends 2 possessions arguing with him on the bench about his missed rotations and inability to move the ball on offense. The NBA TV cameras watched him chew him out literally for 2 mins.

Moral of this story: I know stupid when I see it on the basketball court. And gratefully, my team avoided giving stupid a 4 year nearly 100 million dollar deal and continuing to compromise every young player on our team who had to think for him while all he could do was score.

I’m so grateful for it that I’m not even mad he cost me $700 being stupid tonight.

End rant.

From the jump, I felt like Sexton wasn't viewed as a net positive by Ainge in this trade. Sexton with that contract was a massive favor to Altman, making an impossible negotiation go away. I can't stress this enough since a handful of Cavaliers die-hards want to post draft grade updates daily.

OOOOOVERTIME!

Denver's defense really tightened up in the 4th. OKC no longer got clean looks from their drives or kick-out threes, except Isaiah Joe, who rained in a couple more for six so far.

Bazley had a typical Bazley moment where he wasn't aware of the shot clock and it ran out while he was dribbling into no-man's land.

He's like a slightly smaller Anthony Randolph, or a taller and leaner Isaac Okoro. He defends and looks athletic sometimes, but most of the time, he just annoys the frick out of you, and you think of all that wasted potential that just won't. Ever.

Poku though came up with some more key plays, like a major steal toward the end of the game.

Aaron Gordon is the one who just tore OKC up. We're in OT because OKC couldn't contain him at the end.

Dangit.

OKC couldn't hold on.

Lots of bricks in the OT. Giddey still cannot shoot well. Joe got another for 7 (!) 3-pointers, but it was otherwise a rough OT.

Big games from Gordon, Jokic as usual, and Bruce Brown, who had a triple double for Denver.

SGA had yet another 30+ game, and hit all 14 of his FTs. He's both finesse and relentless at the same time. He can find seemingly endless ways to create shots with lots of misdirection and smart use of space, ball fakes, etc. Really an artist with the ball.

Team isn't quite there yet, but they do seem to compete every night now. At least so far. We'll see if they break out the tank again later in the season...

Watched the last 8 minutes of the Jazz Pistons game… Sexton just isn’t a winning basketball player

Well he did have 12 assists tonight and played some good defense. Never thought that would happen. Apparently Hardy getting into his ear did some good.

Jazz really got hosed by some calls too. Lauri caught an elbow in the face and the refs didn't call it.
Clarkson and Beasley with some real bonehead plays down the stretch too.

The Lauri stuff was fun, but this is where the Jazz starts their tumble and falling flat on their face. He was bad tonight, but the Jazz were worse. Absolutely cannot let a 4-15 awful Pistons without Cade come in and beat your asses. Marvin Bagley of all players went 9-10 FGs.

Agreed I caught part of it after the Cav game and they made Bagley look like the 2nd coming of Kareem. Lauri looks like he's starting to get tired legs too. My guess Ainge is probably fine if they start losing games at this point so he can start trading veteran players by January. I love an underdog but in the NBA you really need at least one alpha on your squad.

I always forget Clarkson is there. They really are like Cavs West.

I refuse to believe that these are real NBA players and not generated players from NBA 2K.

I think they’re about to tank without even trying. I think I put it in this thread, but they are 2-5 in their last 7 and their next 13 are: @GS, @PHX, CHI, LAC, IND, POR, MIN, @DEN, NO, NO, @MIL, @CLE

No gimmies in that group. The last 5 games in that stretch are against 4 of the current top 6 in the league, with 5 of their 7 toughest games on the road.
