2022 American League Central Division Champions

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Caught me lurking. Great post Bimbo.

I've been enjoying watching these pups grow up exclusively and offline in-person with my Dad this season. We drove from Nashville to Cincy for that weekend back to back with the Reds the second series of the season (nearly saw back to back JRam Slams) and from there, we havent missed a single day without texting about or watching these kids together on this magical journey this year.

Last time we did this, I was 12 years old and he took me to about 20 games during that magical 1995 World Series loss to the Braves.

This Guards season has been all about transitions, as he recently had a pretty serious health scare, lengthy hospital stay and now will move into my house once he's discharged in the next week.

So I came to lurk and learn some talking points from you pros in here so I can have some filler for what I hope will be the first of many long October runs.

Back to the shadows for me and keep up the great work in here
Hope your father heals quickly and fully. Don't stay in the shadows too much.

All the best to your pops, Rch.

agree with most of this....

..however, there is uncertainty w/r to an extension offer to Bieber.. It's likely as you've stated.. We just don't know.. If Bieber's representation has presented a bottom line in the Scherzer or Verlander category.. then evaluating him for the CleFO value will be put in place and efforts at trading him will commence.. IDK if he'll be here through the 2024 season.. it would be nice..

The Rule V stuff... & losing guys that would otherwise be useful on lesser clubs is the price the Guardians pay for doing business..

w/r to the Freeman/Rocchio/Arias grouping.. 2024 may be a bit late.. but no later than that, imho..
Jason Lloyd's article in the Athletic says clearly that an offer was sent to Bieber's agency and they turned it down. If you want to read it, then google button.

From Lloyd's article....

"source with knowledge of the Guardians’ thinking, it wasn’t for a lack of trying. The team presented Bieber with a significant extension that far surpassed the deal Snell signed with the Rays, I was told. Bieber rejected it.

Two years later, however, he remains without an extension. According to one source with knowledge of the Guardians’ thinking, it wasn’t for a lack of trying. The team presented Bieber with a significant extension that far surpassed the deal Snell signed with the Rays, I was told. Bieber rejected it.

More and more players are rejecting the security of long-term deals early in their careers and opting instead to wait for free agency. Now that Bieber is making $6 million this year in his first season of arbitration, the urgency for him to sign long term is diminishing. He is finally starting to make real money by baseball’s standards.

Now the dot-connecting: Bieber, who will turn 27 on May 31, is a client of Drew Rosenhaus, the football mega agent who expanded into baseball a few years ago. Bieber is easily the firm’s biggest baseball client and is featured prominently on the baseball page of the Rosenhaus Sports Representation website.

Dennis Wyrick is the president of baseball operations at Rosenhaus Sports and is Bieber’s direct agent. Wyrick came up in the business under Scott Boras, the agent who famously encourages all of his clients to pursue free agency rather than sign away years of control too early.

It’s easy to see where all of this is headed. "

I can't read the athletic since isn't it normally behind a paywall? May as well just post the link and the part where it says they did in here...

I just googled it and had no problem in pulling it up. Lloyds quotes are now posted in a previous post.

This was from the article... It's all second hand knowledge that's not 100% proven. If the FO didn't state it, then it may not be true.

The Cleveland FO is one that doesn't like to state anything publicly until way after its past. Since they didn't state anything, anything a guy like Lloyd says is second hand knowledge and second hand knowledge isn't always correct...

Going by what I am reading from Bimbo and Lloyd, it goes like this... Cleveland probably did a simple, "What do you think about an extension?" with his agent and his agent responded in a sense, "We will discuss at a later date, but it would have to be north of Snell's deal". Cleveland then responses, "Okay, we will discuss this on a future date." End of discussion. No numbers or years or anything was said. Just a simple feeler from the FO towards an extension.

Lloyd's words aren't 100% fact, just what he heard from a source. Who knows, that source may be right, but it could also be off. Sources haven't always been right with Cleveland since Cleveland doesn't really let much out that is said behind closed doors.

Also with Castillo signing his deal, I think it sets some of the basis for a Bieber extension. Remember the Agent is there to advise and get the best deal possible. If Bieber wants to stay in Cleveland, he knows he won't get top dollar, but he won't get a completely lowball offer either. If the player does not want to change towns, the agent has to find a way to max the money staying in Cleveland. That's what JRams agent did... Bieber could say to his agent, I want to stay in Cleveland, make it happen. His agent will be like Bieber should be above Castillos deal for X,Y,Z reasons... 5/120 area +/- 5 million is likely what his agent will compromise on...

From my comment.. there is a degree of uncertainty regarding the extension.. but, (and also from the comment) an extension was probably proffered and rejected.. I think you can agree with that considering the source you've quoted..

The point of the comment was that IF an extension was rejected by Bieber's representation (Rosenhaus) it becomes incumbent on the CleFO to have plan B working: reducing the impact of the pending departure.. both on the field and in the team chemistry..

...of course, that wouldn't begin until after the 2022 season is completed..

Thanks for posting it..
