2022 Buckeyes Football

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Every defensive coach except Larry Johnson is gone, love to see Day take action.

This was always going to be a massive offseason for Day given we finally yielded to TTUN (and the fact that our defense is just awful anyways).

Obviously we have to see an on the field product, but Day is impressing me so far.

A GA and QC under Knowles also coming over. Probably in similar roles.

One of them played at Indiana, which makes the second former IU player to join the staff this year (Frye) being other. This on top of Kevin Wilson being a former IU coach.

A fun little research.

The most talked about expansion model right now is 12 teams, 6 highest rated conference champs and 6 at large and Top 4 get a bye. I went back using the final CFP rankings, here's what every CFP would've looked like.

2014
Byes: Bama, Oregon, FSU, OSU
#5 Baylor vs #12 Boise
#6 TCU vs #11 KSU
#7 Miss St vs #10 Arizona
#8 Mich St vs #9 Ole Miss

2015
Byes: Clemson, Bama, Mich St, Oklahoma
#5 Iowa vs #12 Houston
#6 Stanford vs #11 TCU
#7 OSU vs #10 UNC
#8 ND vs #9 FSU

2016
Byes: Bama, Clemson, OSU, Washington
#5 PSU vs #12 Western Michigan
#6 Michigan vs #11 FSU (who ended up actually playing)
#7 Oklahoma vs #10 Colorado
#8 Wisconsin vs #9 USC

2017
Byes: Clemson, Oklahoma, Georgia, Bama
#5 OSU VS #12 UCF
#6 Wisconsin vs #11 Washington
#7 Auburn vs #10 Miami
#8 USC vs #9 PSU

2018
Byes: Bama, Clemson, ND, Oklahoma
#5 Georgia, vs #12 PSU
#6 OSU vs #11LSU
#7Michigan vs #10 Florida (who ended up actually playing)
#8UCF vs #9 Washington

2019
Byes: LSU, OSU, Clemson, Oklahoma
#5 Georgia vs #12 Memphis
#6 Oregon vs #11 Utah
#7 Baylor vs #10 PSU
#8 Wisconsin vs #9 Florida

Gonna skip 2020

2021
Byes: Bama, Michigan, Georgia, Cincy
#5 ND vs #12 Pitt
#6 OSU vs #11 Utah (hmmmmmmmmm)
#7 Baylor vs #10 Mich St
#8 Ole Miss vs #9 Okie St

If my counting is correct, then of the 84 total bids
B1G: 21
SEC: 18
PAC: 12
B12: 12
ACC: 11
GO5: 7
IND: 3

B1G and SEC are basically the same, save in 2015 and 2016 SEC only has Bama. B1G and SEC only conferences to have 4 in a given year. ACC, P12 and B12 all only have one year where they got 3 teams in and none since 2016. B1G and SEC have 11 years of 3 or more teams between them.

Zach Harrison returning for his senior year. Good to see. He's been a bit underwhelming so far. Hopefully playing the LEO in this new scheme will bring out the beast in him. DE talent looks great next year, assuming health. Sawyer, JT, Harrison, JJB, Friday, Cowan on the 3 deep and then some top 100 true freshmen in mop up time.

Surprised to see the B1G get that many but I suppose we usually have a few teams on the edge while the SEC has a dominant force coming out on top.

Did you count Oklahoma as Big 12? If you give their appearances to the SEC they go up to 23, but Oklahoma will fare differently with an SEC schedule.

I counted OU as B12. Doesn’t feel right to give a conference an appearance for another conference.

I skipped 2020 cause it was just a weird year. But no idea how I’d handle ND who were technically ACC that year.
