This was not about a 40-man space as we had Clement, McCarty and Castro (even Shaw) who could have been deferred before Reyes.

You know that Reyes might have said something derogatory about Tito or Chris ... that wouldn't fly even if relegated to Columbus.

If Tracy didn't feel he was able to get through to Reyes about how to approach hitting, guess who wins.

The only question that I have, is what the frick has happened to Pilk. He must be in the doghouse or working on something. I have him down to AAA via option 2 times other than DHs (Castro is on his 4th). If they knew Castro, McCarty and others were not available for a call-up after Gaddis goes in his first game (and may not be for long), why did they not just hold off Pilk pitching in AAA for one more day (he could have been called up then)? This goes to my question why Gaddis over Pilk as the call-up, yesterday? A few games in AAA wasn't going to make Gaddis ready when Pilk has at least held his own in the bigs.

Yet, I guess that Jewell is a short-term piece anyways until we need another starter on Aug 13 (Civale - 5th pitcher spot with off day coming up on Monday) and/or Aug 15 for a DH. I assume Pilk on 13th if Civale isn't ready as McCarty/Gaddis could then go on 15th to avoid the minimum 15-day option rule. Also, Castro will serve his 15 full days in 3 or so days (but maybe held back for a while as the next time he is optioned down for anything other than DH 27th man rule-- it will be his last time).

EDIT - and you know that the need for a Jewell is usually planned out and just something that they do (start a rookie, send them down, bring up reliever to help pen workload until they need someone else later).

Yeah it's hard to think this was done for the sake of being cheap. After all a frugal team would usually see it as a worthwhile investment to pay a 1-2 million to hope he returns to form, so they don't have to dish out more to other players to accomplish the same thing. So I wonder what it was...

For someone who basically didn't progress from his rookie season I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't take to instruction the best especially after getting demoted.

one last note on Franmill Reyes....

his results during the 2021 season and glimpses during the 2022 season will no doubt provide a means to move Franmill.. A team that sees those numbers/ability & think they can fix him.. may be inclined to offer the "pittance" that has been suggested as a return to the Guardians..

The Guardians would be wise to consider any offer.. They're on the hook for the remaining portion of his $ 4.8 MM contract, anyway... edit: less the prorated portion of the league minimum..

Yeah I'm was hoping to at least get a lottery ticket, reclamation Relief pitcher for Franmil, though obviously it may just end up as a simple release in the next few days.

Let's hope the Kwan, Valera, Jones, Benson, Gonzalez, Brennan era is far kinder to us then the Reyes, Bradley, Zimmer, Mercado, Luplow "era"

How can they get anything at all for him? I thought after they changed the trade deadline rules anyone that was on the 40 man roster at all during the season couldn't be traded after the deadline.

Home plate umpires seem to be getting worse and worse at calling balls and strikes in a consistent manner. I'm ready to see balls and strikes called by whatever automated system they have ready.
