2022 First Entry Draft.. A hitters paradise !!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This year's crop of hitters is pretty good on paper, I don't think they will go wrong with high school or college at the end of the day.
A few general things to consider...

There have been several stories bandying the likelihood of a dozen or more prospect position players being selected in the First Entry Draft before the first arm/pitcher..... This draft has about a half dozen or more top of the draft players.. none are considered "franchise changing players" and most of the middle infielders are considered 2B'ers.. It's the hope of teams picking in the middle third of the first round that a bunch of them are taken early..

Where the Guardians are picking.. there will be several "tough" choices.. If it's BPA.. it will probably be a pitcher (Lesko, Whisenhunt, Rocker, Berreira).. if it's a need based BPA.. then there are too many names to count on..

We're 12 days away from the draft... Thoughts?

So was I right or wrong that we don't seem to be in on DeLauter?

Most likely wrong.

Just because guys aren't getting mocked to teams doesn't mean teams aren't scouting these guys or interested. The MLB draft is the least predictable draft in sports because the nets are cast so largely by teams with the draft pool so ridiculously sized at 4 different levels so it's hard to get concrete info on how and who individual team A is scouting or interviewing.

I don't think most of you quite understand the scope of amateur scouting for the draft, or how many prospects are contacted by an individual team. And in turn how hard it would be to start accurate rumors because of that outside of your top 3-5 picks for any given draft year.

Well that's good. I want us to pick him at 16 so I'm happily wrong if we are in on DeLauter.

Even drafting in OOTP can be a pain in the ass if you are trying to build a proper roster and that only has a set of 2-3k in prospects that your scout has it organized for you by potential and/or other stats. You don't get that in real life, plus there is so many more players. Then signing in OOTP isn't nearly as bad as in real life either. You set your budget before the season starts and it's not even based off of picks you have, it's based off of your owners willingness to spend.

With the batting talent it's hard to skip on one of the bats so if they go college or high school, we all hope they hit the dart board well since it shouldn't be too difficult to hit it in the early rounds...

This Hjerpe might be good?!

If you watch some of his action (YouTube, other) he's got a fairly high effort, deceptive, cross fire delivery from three quarters... It's the kind of delivery that portends shoulder issues.. He's been doing it the same way forever, so, the injury thing could be absolutely wrong.. but, that's what happens to a lot of pitchers that throw like him..

Is he good??.. he's competitive as hell.. probably a response from people me that say.. he's got this funky cross fire delivery that won't hold up..

His projection is late first round to comp rounds.. I'd pass on him until fourth or fifth round, at the earliest... then pick someone else..

sorry for the "shit" opinion...

Every scout has guys they like and dislike...

He has some issues that aren't really towards intangibles or production, it's towards long term health. It's hard to take someone you feel that way about early...

You're entitled to any opinion, I just choose to recognize that I'm a message board poster who knows nothing about scouting pitchers and that a complex formula likely knows more than me. The team will have to weigh the injury risk with his profile but luckily they seem to be good at this!

From GSons post it sounds like, if he can keep a good bill of health, he could be worth getting...

I can't help but like this guy. I also like the report on Hjerpe, but if GOATson says he has an injury risk, I take that seriously. This guy seems perfect for us.

I just love GAS pitching and MASHERS. Slap hitting contact hitters just don't excite this ol rube. Though I will say the Neto report sounds pretty good. Young and Jett Williams is YAWWWWWWWWWWWWN CITY.

DeLauter, Ben Joyce, Hughes, Mule. GAS AND MASH BABY. TimToolmanTaylorGrunt.gif

Gabby Hughes is a fine prospect, very fine indeed.. he's got all the makings of being a fine Guardian.... If he slips to the Competitive Balance round, he'd be a fine addition.. At 16.. he would be an under draft... not that it would change his status as a fine pitching prospect...

A couple of notes...

-Contact hitters who become mashers more readily achieve the desired goal.. Mashers who learn to be contact hitters.. not so much..

-You can teach pitchers with GAS to command and control that GAS.. but it's not easy... You can help command and control artists to throw harder, but, there are limits that can be achieved with some ease.. Smooth arm & body action is god given in most cases.. Lacking these smooth actions.. usually ends with a surgeon knife..

Braves traded for the 35th overall pick in the draft from KC for basically the equivalent of Leftwich, Pries and Yu Chang
