2022 Hot Stove

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Not really, not if he has another 3+ WAR season...
Unless you plan on replacing Straw with somebody with a bit of power and getting a RFer and a C with a ton of it too then signing/trading for another slap hitter will do nothing to help this team. Expecting Frazier to repeat what he had never done before isn't a good gamble IMO. He's not going to help put butts in the seats either. He's about as exciting as watching the grass grow even if he is mildly productive with his game. To think that anybody would suggest to put Amed or Frazier in LF, have Straw in CF, Gimenez and whoever in the MIF, and our current C then expect to compete is delusional.

I'd rather trade Bieber and Ramirez for the haul that would come then waste any valuable assets on Adam F'n Frazier. If we needed a 2B then it would be a different story.

You know Seattle didn't even give up a top 30 prospect via mlb.com... I just said we could have beaten that offer for a legit MLB player

My point wasn't to disagree with the idea that we could have "outbid" them for Frazier. It was that there is no good reason to waste any resources on him. He's not a need or fit in Cleveland.

So a guy who has played LF isn't a need? Lol

He can play just fine in LF and he wasn't expensive prospect wise, not sure how he isnt a need since we haven't had production from that position...

If the upgrade in LF is merely going with Frazier or Amed then I'd rather trade Ramirez and Bieber and look toward 2023. I don't want to trade Ramirez or Bieber. I want my favorite team to win a championship, not toil with mediocre players in positions that they won't rate very high in. So to answer your question, yes LF is a need and your solution is a very low bar. So low as not to warrant the cost.

At the price point that was set for Canha, it was obvious that the FO had no interest.

As the second acquisition for this off season, he was my plan A.

************

Frazier would have been a decent short term pickup to play LF.

McNeil would be even better as a long term addition. Hardly a slap hitter, he has a career wRC+ of 126 and over 600 PAs has averaged 50 XBHs. But his calling card is his OBP, a career .364. And he gets on base vs LHers, too.....356 career.

JD Davis can't play defense at third or in the OF, but he can hit both handed pitchers. He also has high OBP with some pop. .354 OBP...118 wRC+. He has played some 1B in his pro career.

To put OBP into perspective...

Carlos Santana...362
Davis...354
McNeil...364

To put the slap hitting crap to rest, comparative SLG...

Carlos....436
Davis...456
McNeil...459

The Mets aren't gonna keep all three of McNeil, Davis, and Dominic Smith. Right now, none of the three are slated to start. And the Mets are looking for pitching and prospect capital.

McNeil and Davis would be clear upgrades long term. Combined they will get under $6 mil in arby.

Bauer busts the $40 million mark last year and now it looks like Scherzer may bust it on the AAV side for a short term deal this year. Players union should be smiling.

The only way players salaries go up is some free agent pushes the mark forward each and every year

Man! I bet Detroit is regretting not trading Boyd prior to the 2020 season. Looks like he's being given his walking papers.

Scherzer heading to the Mets for plus forty large.. could become the worst news of the off season for the Dodgers... With Corey Seager already heading out of town and the Angels spending wisely (an allegation that cannot be confirmed at this time), that puts the Dodgers into role of stodgy/unmotivated fogey that will be taking the battle for the viewing public during the 2022 season in Southern California with the old guys left over...

The Dodgers also have tens of million$ coming off the books with these departures with possibly more considering the "mess" that Bauer has managed to create..

They gotta do something..

I think we'd get the most bang for the buck with J.D. Davis. He'd fill that Luplow void and maybe more. McNeil is going to have a higher price tag and hits from the wrong side.

Why would the Rockies be interested in Bryant?
