2022 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Just thinking out loud, if a pitcher is known to have arm problems, would it be easier to control his arm stress by making him a 5/6 inning pitcher 70/80 pitches every 5 days or so …..Then getting him up in the bullpen at any given time, I know he wouldn’t have to go back to back, but still…..

@BimboColesHair this may be easier for you to answer...

I would think there is a ton of variables here, but I feel like there are some guys who just can never seem to get to 100 innings while others can throw like 300 without a sweat if you let them. Morris I think is leaning towards being fragile myself, so less innings may be better...

So is this a service time manipulation thing or do people really think he can be stretched out long enough to be a 5th starter next year? Look I love Morris and believe he has FOR stuff but with his track record and his ticking clock with both age and roster wise. Just break him in to the majors this year. He's clearly ready stuff wise. We are competitive and could use a bullpen arm, they are starting clocks for others younger. We keep speaking of logjams well they added him to the 40 and other than his IP he's shown he's ready, once his rehab comes up pitch him in the pen and take it from there. I'd love to somehow work backwards with him as a reliever to starter but at this point dude is filthy and the clock is ticking. Manipulating service time to hope he can be a starter when he's on the 40, 26 years end, and had a slew of injuries; I really don't see what is to argue here.

Morris has about 160 total IPs in pro ball...11.2 this year...5.2 in AAA.

He's had two injuries that have kept him out the majority of the last two seasons.

This is not a resume of someone who is 'ready' to pitch at the MLB level...nor one who should be penciled into the rotation on opening day next year.

This org babies its SP prospects. It shields them as much as possible from injuries. It doesn't throw injury prone SP prospects to the wolves.

It is also an org that has eschewed upgrading its roster this year, presumably to focus on 2024. It is willing to lose games now in order theoretically to win more games later.

How does using Morris now in the stretch run fit that narrative?
When I say be disappointed him not being penciled into 5th it's more because I believe he's not truly going to be able to be stretched out for that anyway and he should be pitching in Cleveland this year. The only argument to stagger him for that would be he has FOR stuff. I want him up as soon as he is fully done with his rehab. I'd love for him to work back into the rotation because I believe he commands 3 pitches regularly but if not so be it and I'm not going to count on it.

What we can do is pen the rest of the season with maybe getting him some spot starts here and there where he goes 3ish innings with McCarty following him. Next season, him and maybe Morgan, McCarty (if he is here) we stretch out like starters then as the season starts, we decide to pen him again or use him as a starter. Right now I want his arm out if the pen helping the other guys. Having an arm like him following/being the opener for Pilkington/McCarty I think is an effective mix personally...

As much as I think he has FOR stuff, I don't mind having him in the pen and even for the long haul. Cleveland's pen has been good overall but seems to have had spurt individual performances to get them their statistically. Don't think it's a real elite unit, he'd be a piece I'd think to help make it elite and really he's 26 might as well get the show on the road. Just imo but it's partially just because I think we got rotation pieces behind him, he's up against a clock at this point, and he's filthy.

he recently turned 20 and is tearing it up at high A. Kid looks like he is going to be special. Does he get called up to Akron this year or do they wait until beginning of next year?
They can take their time, the team already has a high OBP, high AVG, base stealing, top of the lineup table setter in Miles Straw.

I think both should be in Cleveland's top 10. Here's how I would rank them.
1. Espino
2. Williams
3. Naylor
4. Valera(for now)
5. Bibee
6. Rocchio
7. Brennan
8. Cantillo
9. Allen
10. Freeman
There's no way I'm putting Naylor ahead of Rocchio. No way.

I respect your opinion, but it differs from mine. Naylor is a stud and doing it at a higher level. I think they are comparable and both damn good prospects, but I'll take Naylor every time because C like him don't come around very often. Look how many MIF prospects we have.

Personally I throw Rocchio above Naylor/Valera but don't see a whole lot of difference between them. I get that Valera is getting the most attention but he he has a much lower floor because he is not likely to play a premium position or at least play it particularly well, and Rocchio just seems to have a lot more contact ability.

Problem with Naylor is whether or not his defense is really good enough. His hit tool also is a bit sketchy but if he plays passable defense it'll be good enough, given his power.

Jhon Rod continues to MASH. He was another high-ceiling, exciting prospect when he was drafted. Potential 5 tool with bat being biggest ?

He should have replaced Valera in Akron last week. He's 22 and old for his division. But look at the numbers for one Anthony Santander, another switch-hitting OF, with a meh track record his first few years in the org. In his 21/22 year old season in High A, his numbers look a lot like Jhon Rod's.

Hmmmmmmmmmm.

Hmmm
