2022 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Juan Hillman is actually recovering from Tommy John surgery....
I would not be surprised in the least if he shows up in the CLE minor league system again... Can you name a better system to help pitchers rehab and rebound from injury??

If anyone has updates on the following I'd appreciate them

1. Nolan Jones -
2. Daniel Espino -
3. Josh Wolf - I believe he was throwing to live batters in AZ earlier this month.
bump and adding Morris

McCarty is on the 40 man, plus he is a lefty like Scott and Tully which this organization isn't very deep on. I think they are a bit higher on the order than you believe (they are though depth pieces in the end).

We have other guys with less talent in my mind between AA and AAA that we could move on from than the three you pointed out.

Just think, Morris is injured as well, then we let go of Moss and Hillman in the off season. We have a good problem to have, now the question is, how do these pieces all fit. We have the resources to make a move without a doubt.
Can't believe I left Morris out so good catch.

It seems to me, and I may be mistaken, that all of Scott, Tully, and McCarty will take a backseat to every prospect I listed and the one I didn't(Morris). They just don't have the value that any of the other 12 I referred to.

McCarty getting added to the 40 man tells me they at least have him towards the top, but pretty much all I said is, there is other guys they would cut/move before those three

While its a good problem to have all these SPs doing well, it becomes a problem if the FO doesn't make some decisions soon.

Counting the three on the MLB IL, we have 21 pitchers on the 40 man. That doesn't count Hankins and McCarthy, who have to be added or exposed by December.

Plus...

Battenfield, Curry, Gaddis, Torres, Cantilla, Mikolajchak, Misiaszek will also be R5 eligible.

Thats 30 that decisions have to be made on. With all the young position players that will also need to be added to a 40 man already overloaded with good youngsters, the FO can't keep more than 20, if that many.

We also can't have a have dozen or so pitching prospects stuck in AA while their option clock is ticking away.

The longer the FO waits, the farther against the wall it gets pushed when it comes to trades. Other GMs will just wait us out, knowing that the Guardians have to dump as many as ten good pitching prospects in order to put together a protected list.

Even though, no one asked about vargas

Also posted 5-6 days ago ... Jones had a post that said soon .... bimbo said 3-4 weeks after Freeman and thought Morris was maybe all-Star Break ... very cautious ... if I remember right

Is he "towards the top" or expendable? I don't see how anyone could think he's anywhere in the vicinity of the top of the list.

In Columbus, it is precisely those 3 that are expendable.

Yeah, the dam is going to break if it isn't relieved soon. I suspect it will be, and some of that relief will come from dealing some SP from the upper levels including Cleveland. It's going to be interesting.

What we need is to see Battenfield, Myers, Morris and Pilkington get some ML starts and they can't all do that if they're not healthy(Morris) or underperforming(Myers). I wonder if we won't see another "glute cramp" or 3 prior to the deadline. lol!

Plesac is good as gone IMO. We need him to pitch his ass off between now and then.

Looking through the 40 man one can find some guys who's current roster spot could be sacrificed by designating them, trading them, or FA. Those who should be worried are likely Castro, McCarty, Y. Ramirez, Shaw, Rosario, Morgan(maybe), Myers, Hedges, Clement and Mercado.

Guys on the 40 man who I think are good trade candidates are Plesac, Civale, Rosario, Palacios, Freeman, Jones, Morgan, Tena, Arias and Karinchak. I don't think everyone in that list will get traded, but I think it's a pretty good one of who could be available.

I am not too worried about Rule 5 .... we will have hard decisions but you have to look honestly .... what trade value does McCarty, Castro and Gose have? Verry little ... Are we keeping Plesac for long? not likely. Do we have high end talent? Absolutely

We had a roster gap at AAA ... reason they took gamble on Myers ... The trade will be reversed this year with what we have coming with him or other guys. I won't cry if he is traded for a DSL player lotto ticket

Starters(3) - Bieber, McK, Quantrill,
AAA(2) - Morris, Pilk,
On Bubble(3) - Plesac, Civale, Myers
Dec 2022(take 5) - Cantillo, Gaddis, Curry, Hankins, Battenfield, Torres (right now wont be rostered)
Dec 2023 - Espino, Allen Jr, Burns
Dec 2024 - Williams, Bibee

Relievers (6)- Clase, Stephen, Hentges, Santos, Morgan, Sandlin
AAA/inj (2)- Vargas, Karinchak,
Dec 2022 (take 2)- Miko, Herrin, Misak, Enright, Kelly
Bubble - Gose, Castro, Ramirez, Shaw, McCarty

So, we have 3 or 4 hard decisions on if we trade Plesac, cut Myers or take a Battenfield over Herrin (Battenfield).

I think that we can finally agree Battenfield isnt starting over Williams, Espino, Allen or Bibee long term. Myers may not be on team at year end (not a starter and not racking up Ks needed as reliever). Pilk is an upgrade over Allen Jr but not a long term starter on this team (Morgan like swing man). We will cut guys but its not like they will have role long-term. Is Kelly or Enright going to be in our pen long term? is McCarty really a starter for us?

You look at who we are keeping and Bieber is first FA .... but its not like we dont have solid talent coming up to backfill for when we cut a fringe guy.

If someone wants to find a harder rule 5 look at 22 position players

Rule 5 guys (maybe 3 or 4) - Naylor, Brennan, Martinez, Frias, G Rodriquez
Cut bait category - Hedges, Rosario, Mercado, Clement, Maile, Reyes or Gonzalez (need only 1)

In Columbus, it is precisely those 3 that are expendable.

So Draper, Young etc are above Tully. McCarty and Scott, when Tully and McCarty have gotten MLB looks this season...

Those three aren't expendable, they are far away from the chopping block, but they arent better than AAAA/depth pieces

Where in the hell did you pull "Draper, Young etc" from? I never mentioned them because they are below Tully, McCarty and Scott who are already expendable IMO. They were never part of my conversation coach and they don't need to be a part of it now because they're non-factors.
