2022 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

The fans have a good list going, seems like we have at least 5-7 guys we can expect something out of in a year or 2...So far.

CTC ratings vs. Mine - which are pretty similar

1. Valera - I ranked him (4).. I freely admit he has a lot of boom stick and he has popped up as a #1 a few times which means I could be wrong which I suspect is possible.
2. Rocchio - (3)Can't argue about that... Nitpick? Sure if you want, but moving on.
3. Freeman - (2)Seems reasonable
4. Espino -(1) too low... not kidding, but I get it.
5. Arias -(5) ranking him lower here seems wrong.. Ranking him higher than Freeman/Rocchio seems optimistic.. Buy low?

Pretty good "mechanics" overview of Daniel Espino.. was posted at the CTC site.. @jup would appreciate this..especially from about the seven minute point in the video onward..

@Gson - Up until the 5:30 mark, the guy doing the analysis is full of shit. You rotate on the lower half, not stretch some adductors in the groin area. "Keeping the knee back" is the antithesis of what you want to do. And this whole hip tilt from his leg lift is a big pile of do do. Your hips can't rotate until your hip line is parallel to the ground. All that excessive lift does is delay your rotation and create timing issues down the road.

Arm angle outside ninety will be a problem at some point if he doesn't do something about it. The block on his front side (plant leg into landing) is not good and needs improvement. He will gain some velo there.

The guy the analysist says he loves, Dominguez, his lower half mechanics are much much better than Espinos and would be a good model for Espino to look to.

Not sure that all this talk of development (as in adding strength) is going to serve Espino well. Velocity in pitching isn't directly correlated to strength. That is why no Olympic power lifters, or Mr. Olympus body builders throw baseballs. Velocity is more correlated to the stretch of the soft tissue and its ability to rebound from that stretching. That he clearly does very well. Probably the best thing a strength coach could do for Espino, is leave him the fuck alone.

He looks like a good young thrower, that will take some lumps going through the minors. He will have to make some adjustments to his mechanics as they don't lend themselves towards being a real high percentage strike thrower. But he has that equalizer - velocity - and that will carry him a long ways.

Mine are...

Rocchio
Freeman
Valera
Espino
Arias

But just about any listing of them can be well defended.

Guardians officially announce signing of 2 international prospects.
https://www.mlb.com/news/guardians-2022-international-prospects

Via MLB.com rankings Chourio is an FV of 55 and Izturis is listed as a 50... Chourio likely would be number 6 on our top 30 and Izturis would be around 14 on that list... Which knocks off Greene and Curry... and for anyone who is feeling lazy...

From mlb.com

Jaison Chourio, age 16, height 6'2, Bats S, Throw R

Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 50 | Run: 55 | Arm: 55 | Field: 50 | Overall: 55

Chourio, a switch-hitting outfielder from Venezuela, will sign as a center fielder, and that’s where he is going to stay for the foreseeable future. There’s a thought that the lean and wiry teen is too dynamic and athletic to play another position.

Chourio projects to be an above-average runner and have a plus arm. He takes efficient routes in the outfield and gets good jumps on balls hit into the gaps. At the plate, he continues to develop, and like many prospects his age, he is working on his plate discipline and pitch recognition.

Overall, he’s a solid blend of tools and projection.

Baseball is in the family. Chourio’s older brother Jackson Chourio, a shortstop, signed with the Brewers during the previous international signing period. Jaison is represented by Cesar Suarez, a member of MLB’s Trainer Partnership Program. The Guardians are the favorite to sign him.

And mlb.com

Victor Izturis, age 16, height 5'8, bats L, Throws R,

Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 50 | Run: 50 | Arm: 50 | Field: 55 | Overall: 50

The nephew of former Major League infielders Cesar and Maicer Izturis, Victor also trains at their academy. The recipient of big league instruction, it’s no surprise Victor is advanced for his age and has a high baseball IQ.

At the plate, the teenage catcher shows a solid approach and superior instincts in the batter’s box. His barrel awareness is especially noteworthy and as well as his recognition of the pitches he can hit in the strike zone. He’s a contact hitter with some pop.

On defense, he shows soft hands and developing arm strength with a chance to be an overall above-average catcher in the future. Just a tad taller than his big league uncles were at the same age, Victor might also be a touch stronger. He has more of a compact body build than the other Izturises, but he does have one thing in common: He has a chance to star at a premium position.

The Guardians are the favorite to sign him.

Indians are one of the teams with the most money to spend so they likely will have a legit list of players like the earlier report of the 15 players... Yankees are almost tapped out after signing one player...

Now we can sign any number of players for 10k but anything higher comes from our 6.2 mil budget. I expect to hear the news that we signed all 15 players from the earlier list posted a week back...

@BimboColesHair @petes999 and anyone else who may be able to help...

We got info on Chourio and Izturis but since there isn't anything else to do at the moment, any info on the other players we have signed?

One of the players linked to the #Guardians international signing day (SS) prospect Yanki Batista out of San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic did not sign today because of Covid Protocol. Being told he should sign in the next couple of days. His bonus is just south of $1MM.

#Guardians have officially signed RHP Abraham Tejeda out of the Dominican Republic.

#Guardians will be signing today LHP Melkis Hernandez out of Santiago, Dominican Republic. Hernandez trains with Guerrero's Baseball Academy.

Guardians already planning a Chourio's Churros booth for the concourse. Also Yanki Batista is changing his name to Guardián Batista.

Nice! I was hoping for a little more info on each player, even a simple scouting report would be nice in a sense...

Quietly intrigued by all the Y names and the dude named Nomar. Also interesting they were able to ply Batista away from the Yankees, would have thought he was a shoo-in to sign with them.
If you didn’t see, Yankees signed top prospect Arias for $4 million out of $5.179 million bonus Pool. Batista got just under $1 million from us. Yankees used remaining $1.179 on 4 other prospects (not top 50). So, I don’t know if we stole him from Yankees or they just didn’t try/have room.

Roderick Arias is an unbelievably talented kid..he's been talked about for about three years now.. fast.. switch hits.. soft hands.. great arm and can really clout a ball.. He's what ARod looked like at the same age.. helluva get..

The twitterverse claimed the Guardians dropped 1.2 MM each on Izturis and Chourio...Batista's number hasn't been posted anywhere that I've seen.. So, your comment is probably correct.. the NYY's took the big gamble on Arias and then spread out their remaining allowance over four or more guys.. Makes some sense.. take ONE gamble (not a bad choice, imho)... then hedge with four skinny kids that might become something.. and that's the "Skinny"..
