2022 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Bieber is every bit as good now as 'he used to be.' In fact, he's been better than 'he used to be.'

**************

Best news among position prospects so far has been Bo Naylor. All around outstanding so far.

Bieber has one injury-plagued season (where he was still great for half the season) and suddenly everybody is questioning his ability to stay healthy and be an ace.

The guy is great, and as durable as any pitcher out there. If you’re saying you’re not willing to look at extending him, you’re basically saying you’re not willing to extend any starting pitcher.
I can only speak for myself, but that’s not what I’m saying at all. I’m fine with a Bieber extension, but I do think we’re on the “peak of the mountain” with him. I personally don’t believe for one second that he is interested in any kind of discount. I also don’t believe Antonetti will agree to give him what he’ll be asking for should he remain healthy and effective. I don’t want another Kluber’s scenario. That’s my only request.

Doesn’t reveal too much but more laid back that brother. Also, for those who want him at AAA or majors, we do have a hole then at AA and a lot of good pitchers relying on a good catcher like Bo or Lava.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Lavas and Naylor exchange places in the MiLB system.. This would allow them both the chance to continue to hone their craft at the highest level while getting a feel for the arms currently toiling in the Guardians minor league system... Eventually, these two guys my find themselves in a "shared" situation.. but, not likely to happen any time soon as both need to be behind the dish as much as possible..

We'll see...

Bo Naylor (1 for 3 with a 2B, BB and a CS today) has certainly turned things around and is coming on strong... You could argue he's been our most impressive position player easily, not doubt the most "improved" player, and has to be knocking on or in the top 100.

The wrinkle(s)... He is repeating AA. No biggie considering it was a fairly aggressive assignment/Covid... But he should probably be playing AAA ball sooner than later. However, he is blocked by another catching prospect in Columbus and he is already on the 40 man...

What to do.... Hold Steady? Swap them? Lavastida has been hanging in there, but is Naylor's performance enough to flip the switch? Probably not. Split time?

Hold.... For... Now..

Good post...

As both Naylor and Lavas have risen through the minor league system.. they've been the battery mates of some/all of the young pitching prospects during their formative years.. It makes some sense that both Naylor & Lavas spend some time with these guys.. now that they've risen up through the ranks and their arsenals have adjusted to the higher levels of hitting.. The idea that Lavas & Naylor swap... is more of a future planning need, than what would otherwise be seen as a demotion for Lavas and a promotion for Naylor.. A sharing arrangement should only be considered if someone is brought in that is clearly superior catching talent... Otherwise.. stand pat..

Who do you think is better? Guessing Naylor. Is there a material difference between them in terms of defensive and pitching staff handling capabilities?

Put Naylor in Cleveland. Tired of having spotting the other team 3-4 outs a night with the donut in the 9 hole. We have a relatively veteran and experienced staff. I could understand the preference for a veteran catcher over an inexperienced catcher with this staff last year. But they all know the deal by now.

LET'S GO

Also.... People still not giving ValeraGOAT his due. Homer and up to .290+ last night. Got to be knocking on Top 25 prospects in all of baseball status.

Neither is "better".. as neither are ready to be major league catchers.. the difference is moot.. & what makes you think either one of these guys won't be spotting 3-4 outs per night while not being as good or close to as good as Hedgie, defensively?.. The grass is green.. Greener?.. I doubt it..

I choose to believe

We do not have a relative veteran SP staff... We have one of the youngest staffs in the league...

I think he was referring to experience, not age. With Bieber, TMac, Quantrill, Civale, and Plesac we have a good bit of experience. Especially if you consider their ages.
