2022 NBA Draft Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
IMO it's way too early to put Banchero on Mobley's tier as a prospect just yet.

Somewhat related, my favorite part of the draft process is around 8-10 games in. Where guys just start separating from the pack......or guys like Barnes or Wagner just start jumping off the page as projected later picks.

It is kind of crazy to see how quickly you can at least directionally feel like Banchero is a tier 1 type guy. Even with what I said about his passing, his scoring talent already starts him out in that tier 1 neighborhood. Why I mentioned the passing and offensive rebounding is it just isn't realistic that he can score 1.9 points per FGA for a season. :chuckle:

For sure! I posted five minutes into the game that I'm all in on Banchero lol. His combo of size, strength, and perimeter skill is just so immediately glaring. He clearly projects as an impressive wing scorer at the next level... I'm just curious to see if he can bring the passing with it too.

My first hot take comparison is a modern day version of Carmelo Anthony. He draws fouls has great footwork and really puts pressure on the glass at both ends. Yeah Paolo handles the ball more than Melo did in college but that's just different eras. Strong signs for his future

I desperately want this guy to play just well enough, that he's there at the Cavs pick. :chuckle:

Damn very impressive later quickness and defensive activity... That cought me really off guard. Passing and ball moving too, no way he's not taken at least late lottery no?

I wanted to ask have you ran numbers for Kadary Richmond last year? How were they? Vecenie writes he's heard from teams the guy grew to 6'7 as a guard now. Could be a nice fit with that defense and slashing. I expect not too good numbers though with that shooting.

Ivey looks very athletic for Purdue. He really has a nice first step too and the dribble looks solid. He looks like he has a really high motor on both ends. If his jumper starts falling consistently look out. This draft is actually looking much better already!

Yeah he cant shoot from 3 is the story still imo

The Cavs will have a lot of flexibility on draft day.

not only do we have our own pick and all of our future firsts, with 0 restrictions….

We have the Rockets and the Spurs 2nd round picks.(I believe we will owe our 2nd).

So we will have our own pick wherever it lands…and just if the draft were to begin today we would have the #31 and the #36 so the first and the 6th pick of the 2nd round.

Those two picks alone can vault us up into the high 20s. Combine that with our own pick…or future picks…
.
IMO, if the Cavs have a target outside of the top 6-7 of the lottery, they probably can make an aggressive play and land their man.
Or the Cavs could take multiple swings.

I think the Cavs might be somewhere between 15-25. I like Nikola Jovic. 6’10 SG/SF. Can shoot and handle the ball some.

Going to be lots of interesting combinations for draft day outcomes and draft day deals.

Say we end up with pick 18, 31, and 38.

Lots of offers you can make to move up using those two high 2nds, a future 1st, or players like Cedi, Okoro, and Windler. Obviously, no packages from those combos will get you in the top 8, but I think you could easily move into the 9-14 range depending on how the draft order falls, and the draft falls.

On the flip side, what type of NBA player can you get for that same type of package?

Or, you just use all three picks. It seems unlikely but when the bottom five of your roster include Valentine, Pangos, Tacko, Nembhard, and Ed Davis, there's plenty of room for young talent. Those 11-15 guys are pretty much roster space eaters. Not emergency players who can fill in and play well if there is injury. I really hope we re-sign Rubio. He is a great guy to be around and play with as a rookie.

I keep coming back to this past summer's Grizzlies-Pelicans trade to try to gauge how much value it will take for the Cavs to move from the late teens to around #10. The Grizz traded #17, #51, and Valanciunas for #10, #40 (yeah, they moved up in the second round as well), Adams, Bledsoe, and a 2022 FRP from the Lakers (top-10 protected; turns into two SRPs if not conveyed).

Now, New Orleans' motivations for this trade were about salaries (they shed quite a bit of salary in this deal) as much as talent, so maybe it's not the best guide. But it costs a hell of a lot less to move up in that range than it does to move into the top 10. Fortunately, this is a draft where being around #10 should land a quality wing.

Of course, there's a lot of ball left to be played this season, and who knows where the Cavs will end up. But my thinking is pretty much aligned with yours and @InBoobieWeTrust : be willing to package this year's draft picks (and maybe some future picks and/or current players on the roster, as needed) to get in position to draft that wing that will hopefully take the Cavs to the next level.

If you're interested in coveted wings and how far to move up to get them,

1) Banchero
6) PBJ
8) Houstan
9 AJ Griffin
12) Dieng
14) Mathurin
15) Peyton watson
16) Dyson Daniels
18) Jovic
21) Keegan Murray

I need @RchfldCavRaised to break down PBJ's game for me.

I think I'm ready for my love affair to begin.
PBJ has been my crush since last year, and turned to love once we got Mobley. I'll leave the breakdown to @RchfldCavRaised since you asked him, but very simply, I see a more athletic Michael Porter Jr with a better attitude and health.
