2022 NBA Draft Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Here’s my concerns with Ivey. I suspect he’s not 6’4” and, with our present roster composition, we need a SF with some length more than we need another smallish SG. If we could replace Okoro or Sexton with Ivey, while still adding a SF, I’d be be interested in that.
Agreed. I would want him at SG but if there’s a SF available who’s equally talented, you gotta go with the wing who can play the 3. It’s still early so who knows how the prospect order will shake out by then. I don’t want to be so bad that we basically got no development out of our young guys but I also think finishing high enough to only get like the 14th pick would be a mistake too because I don’t trust us to find a gem that late. 7-10 is the sweet spot imo.

If Mobley stays healthy, the Cavs are a playoff team. I see them as high as a 4 or 5 seed in the playoffs and no worse than in a participant in the play-in tournament. Mobley makes that much of a difference and takes our defense to the next level.

9. Cleveland - Max Christie
Christie? 6'6" guard? I feel like he'd be #3 or later on the board, unless he's showing elite offense or something. Anyone seen enough Michigan State to weigh in. Still would take Keegan.

Interesting. A few thoughts:

1) I think it’s wishful thinking that the Cavs will be picking that high. If Mobley stays healthy, this is a playoff team and we’re more likely to pick in the 15-20 range.

2) NBADraft.net always has some different picks in their mock drafts. They have Mathurin, Christie, & Walker as lottery picks and going higher than other mocks. They also have Beauchamp, Wesley, & Minott in the lottery, going MUCH higher than other mocks. Some of these are reaches- namely Beauchamp, Wesley, & Minott, the latter of whom is hardly playing at Memphis. Where’s Keegan Murray, who has been absolutely lighting it up? Sometimes I think they just want to be different and say they were the first ones to be on a guy.

Jabari is going to be a certain top4 pick, so it's fun to watch him but unless we have a major lotto night miracle move up, he's not going to be our Big SF here.

Agreed. Jabari Smith is a pipe dream. Why do people even think this team will be in the lottery, with the way they’ve played with Mobley? If they’re a lottery team, which is a big if, they’ll almost certainly be in the 10-14 range, where the chances of landing a top 4 pick are remote.

This draft is the reason I wouldn't mind if the Cavaliers missed the playoffs. I think the wing quality AND depth, which is this teams biggest need, is a perfect match. Of course I'd love to see them as a top 4 seed, but if they make the play-in, but lose and end up with the 10th pick, or miss the play-in and get the 6-9th pick, I wouldn't be mad.

Now, *next* year, with as many as 3 quality rookies added, I'm looking forward to a top 4 seed in the East and making some real noise.

The best strategy has always been luck.
Play to get lucky!

Lot of nice players in this draft who could really take this team to the next level...

I don’t want to lose games but at the same time picking high in the draft is our only chance of getting a stud wing on the roster. We don’t have valuable traceable assets given Sexton’s injury/pending extension and Okoro’s poor performance. We’re not a destination location for free agents. And I don’t trust our scouting ability to get a gem outside the top 10.

Can you imagine Jabari Smith’s defense and length next to Mobley and Allen who already offer plenty of that? And if this dude’s shooting is for real, holy fuck. Even if Smith is a pipe dream, it’s looking like there will be some nice SGs and SFs in the top 10, as well.

You will rarely see a playoff team, let alone a top 4 seed playing 3 rookies significant minutes. Obviously, looking forward to having our own first and the two early seconds, but if we keep them and pick players with those picks, those three players will not be the difference makers in us elevating to a playoff team. That will come from internal growth and other additions via trade or FA.

I should've been more clear. I don't think 3 rookies will be playing, or having big roles on the team in 2022. My statement was more in expressing that I want to keep those picks and use them on players, rather than selling/trading them. I'd love Koby to build homegrown depth and have players to develop.

My combo ideal/realistic lineup for 2022 is:
pg-Garland, Rubio, 2nd rounder
sg-Okoro, Sexton, Windler
sf-Lotto pick, Cedi, Stevens
pf-Mobley, Lauri, Wade
c-JA, Love, 2nd rounder
