2022 NBA Draft Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Some home cooking for the Johns.

First time watching CBB this season. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

Honestly, Cavs should target AJ Griffin. Julian.C is cute and all, but I don't feel to confident about his projection in the NBA. He looks undersized.. not very explosive elevating off one leg, doesn't have the quickest first step and doesn't seem to be the best finisher inside. Looks like a solid role player in the NBA.

There are some guys I would try to trade up for(realistically into the 11-16 range). AJ Griffin is one. I think he fits the mental profile of Mobley, Garland, and Allen while also having some very aggressive/physically punishing tendencies for his position. I'll admit though that almost all of my Griffin opinions are from watching tape and highlights from AAU, HS, and International Team play. I haven't see a single Duke game this year and I know he was coming off an injury at the beginning of the year and took a long time before he started having some good games.

If we end up picking at 21-24 and we can't trade up, Champagne is a guy I'd consider there because with how much focus Garland, Mobley, and Allen will attract, I think his offensive game can translate without the elite athleticism. But there will probably be other guys there that I like more than him.

A lot of mock drifters seem to share you concern, because I've seen a lot of mocks with Champagne in the 32-40 range. If we have one or both of our seconds left on draft night and got Champagne there, I'd consider that a pretty good steal.

Problem is we won't really know what we will need in the draft until after this trade deadline...

At the current moment, I dont think Sexton will be on the roster when 22-23 season starts... I think Love is kept and Windler is floating in between...

If I was going by the current roster... We don't need a big man at all... Osman and Stevens are solid bench options, so what we need is the starting 2/3 type and a back up PG... If we keep our second round draft picks, can we trade them together and get back into the first round?

@MirORich

Which guys fit a scoring 2/3 type in this draft and a PG that is a pass first that is a floor general that we could get late 1st round/early second round? You seem to know the prospects way better than I do...

I see Wendell Moore in some mock drafts and I can tell he is a very good passing swingman with upside on both sides of the ball, but do you think we would target a guy like him?

For the folks wanting TyTy Washington, where are you envisioning him with Collin Sexton? Or are you assuming Collin won't be back? I'll admit I haven't done a ton of looking into him, but im less than excited about a SG who isn't at least prototypical size for his position (6'5" for SG)...

Would be nicer if he was taller yeah, but he's got really long arms and a big wingspan, so he can defend SGs.

Actually that's why he's a great fit, he could play off next to with Garland (very good spot up shooter and very smart movement) but he can also act as a tall PG and set the offense, defending SGs.

If everything translates, that is.

Gabe Brown, second round..

Any chance Johnny Juzang is available for the Cavs?
6'7 catch and shoot wing with a good stroke. Not an explosive athlete but could perhaps give us better spacing with his shot.
I guess he is similar to what we were hoping to have with Windler.

I love the idea of Juzang with one of the 2nd rounders...

Tankathon has him mocked consistently in the 40's, so according to them he'd be available.
Haven'y noticed where some of the other mock draft sites have him and of course, its really only the NBA GM's that matter.

I think there are better shooters in the draft you want to take a flier on. Cavs need elite shooters, not average.

I want the Cavs to not allow the defense to cheat on Garland on those high PnRs. Right now, he has to face a wall because there are no shooters on either weak or strong side.

You have Markannen on the wing, but he doesn't have enough gravity to counter that.

Not sure if Ford will revise his "Jade" Ivey misspelling in a few minutes or five years from now.

Curbelo is a guy I might consider with a second. I think he has Tyus Jones/Grizzlies role upside and is a blur in the fast court.

I think Chad Ford is using "top draft pick" pretty loosely...

Here's a mid point or so heat check on these guys.

Given Paolo's skillset, it is interesting Smith has so much momentum. My model likes both Paolo and Chet more.

My model absolutely loves AJ Griffin.......which is unfortunately bad news for that pipe dream.

Tari Eason and Jeremy Sochan are the other guys that jump off the page as a small forwards.

It continues to love Champagnie, going on 3 straight years now. :chuckle:

Pegs TyTy as the most attainable young SG prospect, with a rock solid profile.

Williams and Kessler are worth monitoring as backup bigs, with one of our late 30's picks.

Then there is Keegan Murray......attempting to break the model.

Sorted by consensus mock draft rankings.
