What did I just read?

Um...wtf... Why would the Cavs do this? The article is dumb.

In the NY market, they call this Knicks for clicks. It's no different than cable news models who only report what the target audience wants to believe. It doesn't matter if you're mocked so long as you can sell eyeballs to advertisers.

Once I read that LBJ wants more than $90M on his next one-and-one contract I got real good with him staying in L.A. real quick.
Why would you expect him to take less?? Apart from a little pocket change to make caps work, he's always taken top dollar. In truth he probably deserves more, bringing him in guarantees you sellout after sellout, makes your games a hot topic nationally, and puts a third of your games on nation TV. Add to that he's still one of the best players in the game and thus he's one of the few underpaid max players.
He's not coming back here this time. The main reason he left last time was because his family wanted to live in LA and by no accounts has that changed. He'll stay in LA until his son is eligible and that's where things will get interesting. Does some team draft Bronny higher than he's worth thinking it will bring in LBJ and would he then be willing to go there on a lesser deal to play with his son??

It’s a two year 97 million dollar extension! But last I heard he’s looking at doing his Cav like one and one contract thing! Just like with the Cavs he wants changes/upgrades made but he wants his max money too. The team’s entire cap is being eaten up by him, AD and Westbrook.

People need to go watch clips of what Michael Jordan looked like when he played for the Wizards.

LBJ will be 40 when he finishes that contract. How many regular season games has he missed since he left Cleveland? When was the last time he had a good post season series, not game, but series?

If I ran the Lakers front office, I'd be asking myself whether LBJ would have better trade value as an expiring rental at the deadline than with two more years tacked on at that number.

Father time is undefeated. You might win a round or two, but the knock out is coming.

The author of this article forgot that Lebron is not 26 years old anymore. If he plays with his son in 2024-2025 season, he will be 40 almost the whole season (and perhaps a grandpa too if by then 20-year-old Bronny follows his dad’s example). Lebron could always sit on the bench beside his son though because Bronny may never leave the bench.

He had a good series the last time he was in the playoffs. Yes the Lakers lost to the Suns, but LBJ went for 23/7/8 for the series with a positive +/-, it was the play and injury of Davis that did in LA. Those aren't great numbers for LBJ, but they are fantastic for anyone else.
And father time might be undefeated, but so far LBJ is putting up quite a fight. He averaged 30/8/6 this year, his 2nd highest scoring year ever, with his highest efg since leaving the Heat. Yes he missed some time, but some of that was because LA was out of it with no reason for him to go.
I'm not saying James is near what he once was, but what he brings into a team both on the court and in the box office far exceeds his salary. Most max players are vastly overpaid. James is one of the few who have been underpaid.

if youre taking a shot at that.....imo....mobley MIP at 50/1 is also worth a play... i posted this before..

Draymond knows his stuff, but I only believe 1 of those things. I think he is an all star this year, but MIP usually goes to someone with ridiculous improvement, that would take mobley being a 22/10 guy and i dont quite see it.

I say that Mobley has a better shot at MVP in 5 years than MIP this year, just how it goes in my opinion.

Let's say LeBron does not sign the extension and the Lakers continue to experience AD injuries and Westbrook diminishing skills. At the halfway point next season the Lakers are back in 11th place, right where they ended up last season. Would they be motivated to trade LeBron or let him play out the rest of the season, missing the playoffs, and then letting him potentially sign elsewhere with no compensation?

Duh.

Meanwhile, the Cavs, with better injury luck next year, are in 2nd-5th place in the East. This is not unrealistic. At the All-Star break last year they were 29-19 and 1.5 games out of first.

How about trading Love (to balance the money), Okoro, and our 2024 first round pick (which will be very late in the round), for the last 40 games of LeBron's 2023 season?

We get LeBron right when Rubio is coming back. Instant Championship.

The Lakers get Okoro (or Wade, Windler, or Stevens, whoever they prefer) and a late first for 40 games of LeBron in a non-playoff season.

The big question in this scenario is will LBJ pass Kareem before the trade deadline? I think the Fakers won't trade him if he hasn't yet reached that plateau. At last year's 30 ppg pace, it would take him 44 games. But he only played 56 games all season.

Last year the Cavs played Game 55 right before the trade deadline. So it could be very close.

The team can't trade the 24 first round pick because we may not own the 23 first round pick. You can't trade firsts in back to back years. As for trading for LeBron mid-season I wouldn't do something like that. If the team is gelling and performing at a high level adding LeBron to the mix could actually hurt team chemistry and on court product. It's very hard to fit a piece like LeBron in mid-season particularly if the team is already playing at a high level.
