Theoretically, there's room for agreement between these two positions, but there's also reason for concern.
With the Cavs not prepared to shell out big money for Sexton, I see this going 1 of 2 ways:Theoretically, there's room for agreement between these two positions, but there's also reason for concern.
Dubs are running into salary cap issues and they absolutely love Kuminga, who is the future there. If they can move Wiggins for a high draft pick (Sacramento?) they will do so.
I mean there are starting guards in the NBA making $18M per, but the Cavs really don't have an incentive to give him a one-year deal for that much when the alternative is he plays on the Q.O. for half that much. I'd be in favor of a three-year deal at $18M per if the last two years weren't guaranteed. With the Cavs not prepared to shell out big money for Sexton, I see this going 1 of 2 ways:
1) he takes a 1 year, ‘prove it’ deal at $15-$18M.
2) his camp finds a team willing to make a long-term commitment at around $20M annually and they push for a sign & trade.
It really depends on Wiggins expectations are for his next contract. If he's convinced he needs a vet max because he's made the all star team, I'd let some other team deal with that.Amazing what being a role player on a championship contender does for perception.
Wiggins is the same player right now that he's always been. The only number that's improved is his 3 point percentage, and we know how Steph's gravity works in that regard.
He's not an all-star caliber player just because the Warriors organization outsmarted everyone with the fan vote. He wouldn't have got in as a reserve.
Knowing now that Darius is going to get a max and that Mobley is really good, I'd flip money for Wiggins just because the Cavs aren't going to sign a better player in free agency, but he's hardly worth a king's ransom or anything like that.
It’s won’t go number 1 , he would have to play at his QO offer which is much less then that if he wants a 1 year prove it deal……With the Cavs not prepared to shell out big money for Sexton, I see this going 1 of 2 ways:

Here’s what I think will happen with Sexton, we will offer 15M for 3/4 years, with the ideal he will be coming off the Bench and playing the Rubio role….
They will counter with 20M a year, and say the only reason he not a starter is because he got hurt….
We will counter that offer for around 17M a year, if he say no , we will say go bring us a offer……. if he can’t get one , he can play for the QO and bet on himself, which I think will be suicidal, because he will be coming off the bench, assuming no one get hurt for a extended time….
You may be right. The Cavs would be wise to insist on multi-year deal at that kind of money. Collin is the type of guy who would bet on himself (ie signing the QO) before signing for less than what he feels he’s worth. It’s unlikely much of a market develops for him, so Collin signing for the QO may be inevitable. It’s won’t go number 1 , he would have to play at his QO offer which is much less then that if he wants a 1 year prove it deal……
Collin playing hero ball and trying to prove to everyone just how good he is could very well wreck our team chemistry.
I'm not at all sure the Collin is the type of guy who would - wrongly - believe that hero ball is the best way to a big contract. Last season, he definitely was making an effort to fit more into the flow of an offense and not play hero ball. And certainly, he and his agent have both heard those criticisms.
My guess is that if he was trying to "prove himself", he'd probably do it in the right way.
Its ironic we say hero ball, because i think Sexton should be playing "Herro" ball. He is a scorer and we should put Sexton in a role that allows him to use his best talent of scoring. 6th man role will be perfect and he does deserve decent guard starting money of about 18 mill, not sure when 18 mill became bad money, but its a fair offer. I think we get there with him, LeVert i feel will be harder to extend.
