Analysis

Overview
High-cut guard with a tackle's body type, Hayes could be a measurables winner with size, length and lean mass checkmarks populating his physical profile. He plays the game like a streetfighter, using length and strength to pummel overmatched opponents. However, he lacks the fundamentals to carry it over against pro competition. He's not much of a bender. Poor footwork and body control lead to inconsistencies in both run and pass blocking. He's a tough, physical finisher with coveted physical traits but needs to upgrade his hands, feet and contact posture to become more than a backup in the league.
Strengths
  • Massive, big-boned frame with good lean mass.
  • Upper-body power to maul and grind.
  • Adequate short pull, finding target with heavy strike.
  • Rough-and-tumble block finisher.
  • Length to become better in early stages with punch.
  • Has strength to occupy gap rush.
  • Brings defender in tight after contact.
  • Does well when he can turn it into a street fight.
  • Tough to discard once he gets into opponent.
Weaknesses
  • High-cut with a tackle's body type.
  • Fundamentals are severely lacking.
  • Slow to adjust assignment after defender voids.
  • Pad level is too high into entry points and works with very little leverage.
  • Lacks positioning and feel to keep block centered.
  • Hands are strong but sloppy, with excessive grabbing.
  • Base width diminishes during block engagement.
  • Protects with disconnected hands and feet.
  • Balance and footwork are all over the place in pass sets.
  • Moved and countered too easily by athletic rushers.

"His body control is pretty bad but he's long and has a pro body. Don't underestimate that because teams draft that and then try to coach the player up and all of a sudden they are in the league eight years." -- Executive for AFC team

DRAFT PROFILE: BIO

Isaiah Thomas was a four-star recruit by 247Sports, Rivals and was given an honorable mention all-state by The Oklahoman. He was also a member of Tulsa Memorial’s 2017 Class 5A state championship-winning basketball team. After high school, he chose Oklahoma over Alabama, Oklahoma State, and Tennessee.

After redshirting the 2017 season Thomas played sparingly the following two years and was finally given a chance to showcase his talents in 2020. He started all 11 games and played at both defensive end and defensive tackle and finished the season with 32 tackles (20 solo, 12 assists) with team-highs of 8.5 sacks (for 60 yards),13.0 tackles for loss (totaling 74 yards), and was credited with two fumble recoveries, a forced fumble, eight QB hurries and two pass breakups. At season's end, he received a second-team All-Big 12 selection by league coaches and the media.

In 2021 as a senior he saw action in 12 games starting 11, Thomas totaled 38 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, team-high 8.0 sacks, four pass breakups, three QB hurries, three forced fumbles, and an impressive 34 total QB pressures on the year. Thomas was awarded with an All-Big 12 Second Team selection by league coaches at end of the season.

SCOUTING REPORT: STRENGTHS

  • Vision to locate the ball and recognize cut blocks. Can rip past blockers and pull down ball carriers when he cannot fully disengage from linemen.
  • Thomas displays the upper body strength to power through blockers and has an excellent long-arm bull rush
  • Good overall football IQ - shows good position awareness in run defense
  • Displays very good lateral quickness - can mirror ball carriers sideline to sideline
  • Showcases an impressive stunt and twist to create a pass rush
  • Has very fast and powerful hands that allow him to disengage from blockers and keep them away from his pads
  • His length, effort, and short-area quickness still pressure double teams and help penetrate gaps.
  • Aggressive with good awareness to track the ball and attack. Tenacious, tough, competitive, and versatile.
  • Sacks and pressures are a product of hustle. Gives effort on every play. Holds the point with length and a strong upper body.
  • Relentless and strong off the edge as a pass rusher when fresh. Gets under the pads of tackles to bull rush them into the backfield.
  • He's not an elite pass rusher and projects as a left end in a 4-3 defense. If he layers on more muscle, he might fit in the 3-4. Size, strength, and versatility should push him into the top 75 picks.

SCOUTING REPORT: WEAKNESSES

  • Stands up well against the run but is very pursuit-conscious and will take unneeded wide angles
  • Has the versatility to play all along the defensive line despite his size limitations
  • Has limited overall athletic ability and average strength and often fails to display blockers at the point of attack
  • Is not explosive off the snap and needs to develop a better snap recognition
  • Was arrested for petty larceny and a DWI - which at the very least shows some immaturity issues which must be taken into account
  • Never out of a play, but can get out of control and work himself away from the action.
  • He doesn't have the elite quickness or flexibility to flatten off the edge against NFL blockers and might have to add bulk to be a 3-4 defense five-technique, or strong-side end in a 4-3.
  • Plays tall and gets upright off the snap. Needs to focus on leverage due to only average lower body strength

SCOUTING REPORT: SUMMARY

Isaiah Thomas is a solid player without any elite traits - he has decent although not special athletic ability, some good pass rush moves but only average strength at the POA and is good in pursuit in run defense. He however has had off-field issues which may make some teams remove him from their draft boards altogether.

It's unlikely that Thomas will be picked any higher than the fifth round and more than likely he'll end up being picked in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

The NY Jets, and @SuperSurge are up next...

With pick 163- The New York Jets select:

CB Mario Goodrich, Clemson

Clemson cornerback Mario Goodrich

Mario Goodrich had an excellent season for Clemson last year and was one of the best overall cornerbacks in the ACC. He allowed zero touchdowns the entire season while recording two interceptions and defending seven passes. Opposing quarterbacks often avoided throwing at the player he was covering, or else he probably would have intercepted more passes.

He did however have one of the craziest pick-sixes you'll ever see:

Drake London, WR
George Karlaftis, EDGE
Nakobe Dean, LB
Chris Pierce, WR
Bryan Robinson, RB

The Eagles made that pick because they're big fans of Munford and Sons.

RANK: #41 POSITION RANK: #39 STATE RANK: #16

DRAFT PROFILE: BIO

Thayer Munford transferred to Washington High School in Ohio for his senior season and at season's end and was rated as a 4-star prospect by ESPN, 247Sports, and Scout with position rankings at offensive tackle as high as No. 22 by Scout. He was highly recruited and opted to accept an offer from Ohio State.

After playing a total of 202 snaps in 2017, he was made the starter at left tackle for the 2018 season and despite playing 922 snaps he didn't allow a single sack.

In 2019 he saw action on 855 snaps and surrendered 5 sacks and 20 total pressures, in addition, he gave up 6 penalties and received a Second Team All-Big Ten spot as a result. 2020 was Munford's best of his college career - while playing on 512 snaps he didn't give up a single sack and surrendered just 3 pressures all year. He received First Team All-Big Ten honors from the coaches and media at the end of the season.

As a senior in 2021 Munford played well although quite match his outstanding 2020 season. After being over to the unfamiliar position of left guard he gave up a sack and 16 total pressures while playing on 704 snaps

SCOUTING REPORT: STRENGTHS

  • Has ideal length and size for the position (6-5 and 7 foot wingspan)
  • Solid powerful hands - establishes a good grip while avoiding holding for the most part
  • Plays with appropriate wide base and intelligence, instincts, and agility to seal the edge. Aggressive extending with power to punch and looks comfortable in space.
  • He has the quickness and growth potential, long arms, and powerful base to be one of the most popular players in predraft film sessions. If he impresses in private workouts, he could climb draft boards.
  • Good play strength with a wide base and has the power to drive smaller defenders back
  • Offers versatility - had more success at LT but will be considered as an inside prospect too
  • Best on the outside because of his height and athleticism, but is a good puller and capable of blocking on the move.
  • Dips shoulder and moves his feet to get outside leverage when needed. Strong and low coming out of his stance, effective in short-yardage situations.
  • Has the feet to adjust when he anticipates what's coming. Effective trapping and bends at the knees with adequate core strength to absorb the bull rush. Can clear a path at the second level if he hits the target.

SCOUTING REPORT: WEAKNESSES

  • Has inconsistent footwork and body positioning and needs to improve his blocking angles.
  • Plays a little off balance - leans forward too much while overreaching
  • Got killed by Adrian Hutchinson in a big game against Michigan - in a possible preview of how he may fair at the next level without more development
  • Looks unconventional in pass protection and will have to learn the nuances of the pro game
  • Isn't an elite quick-twitch blocker and his height causes him to be out-quicked. Leaks inside pressure when his technique gets sloppy.
  • Stops his feet after initial contact, relying on length but allowing the defender to get the corner or spin inside.
  • Height can be a detriment in short-yardage, defender can get under his pads to hold the line.
  • A short-area blocker with limited range and doesn't consistently get to the second level. Will play undisciplined at times, especially in space. Lacks a finishing attitude.

SCOUTING REPORT: SUMMARY

Thayer Munford offers a lot at first inspection, he's had four years of starting experience at a top football program, has ideal length and overall size, and has displayed versatility having played both guard and tackle. However, his play on the inside in 2021 (after playing the previous three years at LT) left a lot to be desired and so will probably be looked at as a tackle-only prospect.
For Munford to be looked at as anything higher than a fourth-round prospect teams will need to figure out if his 2021 performance was a fluke or the new norm. Expect him to be selected in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

@sportscoach at #167 and @SuperSurge at #168 already made their picks, so @selby56 and the Tennessee Titans at #169 are up.

With the 167th pick in the NFL Draft the Dallas Cowboys and @sportscoach select...

Austin Allen TE Nebraska

AUSTIN ALLEN TE NEBRASKA | NFL DRAFT PROFILE & SCOUTING REPORT

40 TIME: 4.83 SECONDS
HEIGHT: 6-8 WEIGHT: 260
HANDS: 9 4/8 ARMS: 34 1/8 SPAN: 81 6/8
DATE OF BIRTH: 11/10/1998 AGE: 23.5

Strengths

  • Soft, reliable hands center the big target for quarterbacks. Shields the defense and will let the ball into his pads to protect it when about to absorb a big hit over the middle.
  • Has a strong, athletic frame with room for an additional 10 pounds of muscle mass.
  • Knee-bend and technique are good and he shows decent power when his hands hit the target.
  • Has extremely good, soft, natural hands. Consistently makes the clean catch.
  • Good strength and effort to run through arm tackles.
  • Has enough speed to challenge the seam but does not possess elite top-end speed.
  • He is a highly competitive player and quickly gets to the perimeter, blocking well in space and at the second level.

Weaknesses

  • A glider, moves faster than he appears but lacks the top-end speed to be a real threat down the seam.
  • Only average lateral agility to elude and might not be fast enough to be a consistent threat down the seam against NFL competition.
  • Isn't agile for a tight end. Might have real trouble getting open at the next level.
I believe it is @SuperSurge and the Jets who are now up...

The New York Jets select:

Michael Clemons, EDGE- Texas A&M

https%3A%2F%2Framblinfan.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2Fgetty-images%2F2017%2F07%2F1355929681-1.jpeg

Clemons had seven sacks and 11 tackles for loss this season for Texas A&M. He showed particularly impressive skills against LSU, which really put him on the map for NFL scouts.

Additionally, he shows some definite three-down potential for the NFL, and he can be used right away in obvious passing situations while teams work on fixing his mobility issues. He has good size at 6-foot-5 and 270 pounds, and his pass-rushing moves are NFL ready.

Clemons is a bit of a developmental project when it comes to being a starter in the NFL, and he’ll never be a perfect athlete, but teams won’t care if he can get to the quarterback.

The Tennessee Titans are on the clock. Not sure who has them @Randolphkeys ?

With the 169th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans select...

Kevin Harris, RB, South Carolina

Kevin-Harris.jpeg

Is this a bit of a homer pick? Probably. But Harris is an impressive runner that seems to be going under the radar. The Titans need a good back-up option to Derrick Henry, and Kevin Harris will keep beating up the defense when Henry needs a breather. As a sophomore he was second-team All-SEC, but he did take a bit of a step back in his 2021 season partially due to injuries. He saved his best for last in 2021 though, literally carrying the Gamecocks to a victory in their bowl game with 182 yards on the ground in 31 attempts.

Overview
Big, bruising runner with good vision and the self-awareness to understand that power running is what will butter his bread. His 2021 productivity fell off from 2020, due in part to health issues, shared carries and average South Carolina run blocking. He creates for himself with contact and tackle-breaking talent, but typically drops and finishes against an open-field tackler rather than avoiding him. He's a chain mover with excellent ball security as a battering ram inside. He will be limited as an outside runner and needs to come off the field on passing downs. Harris has talent and his impressive 2020 was no mirage. He's a good Day 3 option for teams looking to upgrade their power.

Strengths
  • Grown man with thickly muscled arms and legs.
  • Runs with good high-knee action for a big runner.
  • Knows he's a big back and finishes like it.
  • Build-up speed for longer runs once he hits the open field.
  • Good job finding relevant rush tracks.
  • Capable of reading and cutting off blocks effectively.
  • Balance to absorb contact and keep it moving.
  • Just a single fumble over 358 carries at South Carolina.
  • Consistently shrugs off tackle attempts above the waist.
Weaknesses
  • Had offseason back surgery after 2020.
  • Lacks early creativity when needed.
  • Will get walked down by linebackers on outside runs.
  • Not much open-field shake to elude on second level.
  • Change of direction saps momentum of the run.
  • Takes on heavier contact than is necessary.
  • Catches the football like it's made of lava.
