The home stand continues with a weekend series against the 13-25 Tigers. The Tigers started out 6-7 but have since gone 7-18 with five of those wins coming against the Orioles, A's, and Pirates; three teams well under .500. They have a lot of injuries including three starters out.

The Tigers are 5-5 at home but only 4-12 on the road.

The Tigers are last in the majors in scoring at 2.76 runs per game. They're last by a long way with the next worst team averaging 3.30 runs. They've only scored 21 runs in the last 9 games.

Last year the lowest scoring team in the majors averaged 3.76 runs per game, so the Tigers are a full run below that. They may turn out to be a historically bad team offensively if they don't start hitting.

The Tigers top six players in terms of plate appearances are hitting .161, .205, .286 (Miggy), .204, .207, and .173. Against right-handed pitching the team is hitting .210/.563. They rank 29th in OBP, slugging percentage, and OPS.

The Tigers are 11th in team ERA at 3.60 so this could be a low scoring series.

Aaron Civale goes for the G's tonight. Civale has been one of the three worst starting pitchers in baseball so far with an ERA of 9.85. Hopefully the Tigers anemic offense will be just what the doctor ordered to help Civale get back on track. As bad as the Tigers are offensively they're even worse against RHP's so Civale has a chance to have some success and get his season turned around. They're also hitting worse on the road.

The Tigers are starting three young right-handers this series, starting with 25-year-old Tarik Skubal, who is off to a great start with a 3-2 record and a 2.50 ERA. Skubal has an ERA of 0.95 in his last three starts so the G's will be going up against a hot starter. He shut out Oakland and Baltimore over 13 innings in his last two starts.

Lefties are only 6-for-30 (.200) against Skubal so this is another RHP with a negative split. They seem to be everywhere. Righties are hitting .244/.650.

Last year in three starts against the Indians Skubal had a 6.28 ERA but he seems to be a different pitcher this year.

Josh Naylor should be ready to return to the lineup tonight but Jose Ramirez may be out after fouling a ball off his leg last night and having to leave the game. If he can play they might put him at DH with Reyes in right field and Clement at third.

Kwan has 2 hits in his last 21 at-bats and is hitting .185 in May. He needs to get going. Pitchers have figured out how to attack him effectively.

Franmil Reyes has the lowest OPS of any designated hitter in the majors at .552.

I think the keys to getting the Guardians going again are Civale, Reyes, and Kwan. A little more offense from the catching position would help, too, but that may not be realistic.

Can we put up a worse lineup .. luckily I only get to watch on replay due to daughter softball game at 8... No Naylor or Gimenez but Clement and Chang :banghead::banghead::banghead:

Straw, Rosario SS, Ramirez, Miller, Reyes, Mercado RF, Chang 2nd, Clement LF, Hedges

Oh great, Rosario, Mercado, Clement, Chang, Hedges, Incompetent Fanmil, that is indeed the worst Tribe lineup since the Acta era

GUARDIANS LINEUP 5/20/22

Myles Straw (R) CF
Amed Rosario (R) SS
Jose Ramirez (S) 3B
Owen Miller (R) 1B
Franmil Reyes (R) DH
Oscar Mercado (R) RF
Yu Chang (R) 2B
Ernie Clement (R) LF
Austin Hedges (R) C

This lineup makes me sick, fucking Chang and Clement, we just got swept by the worst team in baseball and this is the sense of urgency lineup, WTF.

I mean, with all due respect, what do you want them to do? You can only work with what you have lol. I don't like it as much as the next guy, but you just can't pluck Mike Trout out of the sky.

I know there’s a lefty on the mound tonight, but we gotta keep playing Gimenez everyday and now that Naylor is activated, I don’t understand why he isn’t in there either. He was our hottest hitter when he went out. I think we know what we are getting out of Chang by now, Oscar Gonzalez isn’t going to come in and be an all star by any means, I’ve watched him enough in Columbus to know that but he’s a better hitter than AAAA Chang. It’s frustrating to see the FO clinging to 2nd half 2021 Chang like that’s who he is as a hitter when every year prior and this season before Covid, he is who we thought he was. Thanks Dennis Green

Today's lineup against lefties for the season:

Myles Straw.300.432.367.799
Amed Rosario.200.238.350.588
Jose Ramirez.143.250.314.564
Owen Miller.231.364.539.902
Franmil Reyes.179.233.179.412
Oscar Mercado.138.167.207.374
Yu Chang.000.000.000.000
Ernie Clement.160.276.200.476
Austin Hedges.125.250.250.500

And yes, I really had to do a double take on JRam's splits for the season. Against righties? .330, .421 OBP, .639 SLG, 1.060 OPS. Then you look at the rest of this lineup in general against lefties... and oof... we have a leftie problem. A BIG one. For shits and gigs, below you'll find the same splits against righties...

Oscar Mercado.250.273.558.830
Yu Chang.000.000.000.000
Ernie Clement.231.286.308.593
Austin Hedges.172.213.276.489

So then I thought, hmm, okay. Is it this combination of players or the team as a whole? Let's take a look.
