2022 Season | Series #17 | Guardians @ Orioles | June 3-5, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Guardians take the series 2-1. The Orioles had 13 hits in three games for a .143 average. However, 7 of their 10 runs scored on home runs and three of those runs were on base due to a walk or hit batter.

Very nice win today as Plesac battled through six innings allowing two runs. The home run by Mountcastle was on a fastball on the upper edge of the strike zone that he hit 437 feet to the opposite field - just an amazing swing. I can't fault Plesac for that.

The bullpen held the fort and Captain Morgan continued his amazing streak of baffling hitters. He's unscored upon in his last 10 innings with 3 hits and 16 K's.

Speaking of amazing, Andres Gimenez is now 10-for-19 with two out and RISP. He won the game with a two-out blast with two on. It was the only at-bat of the game with RISP and he made the most of it.

Give Owen Miller some credit - he took a very close slider on a 3-2 count for ball four that brought Gimenez to the plate. If he cuts at that pitch and makes the third out we almost surely lose.

Sac battled some serious cotton mouth, too.

A good percentage of this forum was clamoring that Arias should be playing this year in Cleveland ahead of Gimenez.

A majority insisted that Arias was better defensively and had more power. They held his 2021 season in Columbus as proof, even though Gimenez was BETTER in his Columbus stint.

Over parts of three MLB seasons, without benefit of a year of seasoning in AAA, Gimenez has about 490 PAs and has put up 3.7 fWAR and 4 rWAR.

Over that span he has made only nine errors and has 12 DRS. And as he has played he has gotten better....no errors this season with 7 DRS so far this year. But you dont need to look at numbers to see that he is a wizard with the glove.

Those that don't know by now never will...until the time comes when they insist they always knew it.
Not as much as you were clamoring that Gimenez was better than Arias(he's not). It's been explained to you time and again.

I get a good laugh at you patting yourself on the back. Nobody, and I mean not one single person has ever questioned Gimenez's defense, and nobody(including you) thought he would put up the type of offensive numbers that he currently is. Actually, it's highly doubtful that he can sustain it, but we're all pulling for him. Personally, I hope/wish they quit sitting him against LHP. He's our SS and therefore needs to be there everyday until someone unseats him. That is certainly a possibility with the MIF talent in this system, but nothing is given.

Anyway, hard fought series of what looks like 2 teams starting to position themselves for postseason play in the very near future. Taking this series against Baltimore is nothing to look down upon. Excellent pitching today with just enough offense.

I don't know if Baltimore is that close to the post-season, especially in the same division as the Yankees, Rays, Blue Jays, and Red Sox. I expect the Red Sox, with an unlimited budget, will quickly bounce back. The O's are the only team under .500 in that division.

I like the O's top five hitters (Mullens, Mancini, Santander, Mountcastle, and Hays). They say Rutschmann is a budding superstar but he's already 24 and is hitting .137 in his first 50 AB's. But only one of their starters has an ERA under 4.50 and two of them are over 6.00 in a year when offense is down. It looks to me like their only decent starter is Tyler Wells (2-4, 3.78) although they'll get Means back eventually.

The bullpen is impressive.

Looks like they need 3-4 starters, a couple more position players who can hit, and Rutschman to achieve his potential before they challenge for the post-season in that division. Their problem is the Yankees and Red Sox have unlimited budgets while the Rays and Jays always produce talent. Thank goodness the Guardians didn't end up in that division.

Rodriguez and Hall will bolster their rotation at some point. Henderson, Cowser, Westburg and Stowers are all in the upper levels and doing well. If they are not sold on Mateo, then they could use a slick fielding SS. Could we pry Hays away with Arias and Plesac? Would we want to with Valera, Jones, OGon, Kwan, and Palacios already in the system. Hell, I don't know. The only thing I do know is that I would much prefer Hays and OGon in the corners as opposed to OGon and Kwan/Palacios, but that's just me.

We are one day closer to Amed not playing shortstop for us anymore. (And I like the guy as a player.)
Can we make a trade to get Frankie back? We have unfinished business. We were a clutch hit away from winning the World Series.

Does anyone know how to edit photos? I do, but I don't have the program anymore. I am curious if we can get Morgan's face onto something like this picture/a captain Morgan picture... lol
Should photoshop his face onto a superhero. Like, maybe the Greatest American Hero.

Naw, we are trying to get something like Miller time for Morgan, so using @DCTribefan 's idea, Captain Morgan was the best candidate. We just need a photo edited with Morgan as Captain Morgan... (maybe we should put that on shirts haha)

Though I like Captain Morgan, it's too on the nose for me. I'll be going with Captain Eli myself, and hope he just becomes "The Captain" over time.
