2022 Season | Series #25 | Yankees @ Guardians | July 1-3, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This stretch of 8-9 considering Straw, JRam, Miller and All Catchers are struggling, plus several middle relievers are spewing oil…..I mean, this is pretty remarkable. Could easily have been a 5-12 stretch.

He is not fine. He is demonstrably awful. If he pitched against himself he would strike himself out. How can a real fan throw Kwan under the bus so cavalierly to preserve the name of Ernie fuggin Clement. So weird.

Only thing I said is if you just went by those two stats, Kwan wouldn't be in the bigs since he is below average in both of them as well...

@daddywags I enjoy your posts, but I have to 100% disagree with those stats stating that Clement shouldn't be up. Clement has an LD of 14.6% Barrel is 4.3 and hard hit is 25%

Kwan is at 17.3, 1.5 barrel and 22.4% hard hit... If you say Clement shouldn't be up, then you have to the same about Kwan since his barrel and hard hit are lower than Clements...

Kwan has a .276 avg, .355 slg% .323 wOBA
His xBA .266, xSLG is 353 and xwOBA is .323

Clement has a .185 avg, .213 slg, .213 wOBA
His xBA .233, xslg is .351 and xwOBA is .281

Can you not tell me his luck has been almost bull shitly bad this season?

If you look at the whole picture, Clement is doing way better than his numbers state. Now he wouldn't be a starter on any team, but he is doing just fine in his reserve role. He had 40 plate appearances in June...

I have been on record calling for David Fry to take over Clement's spot. He can play 1B and 3B (not as well as Clement, but, then Jose doesn't, either), we could end the Miller at 1B and the Clement in LF fiascoes and, since Fry isn't a top young prospect, he doesn't need everyday ABs.

I don't think anyone is against that, but Fry doesn't play 3B as well as Clement, doesn't run as well cannot play 2B/SS as well as him. Fry can play catcher, while Clement plays 3B near gold glove if not gold glove levels, while being solid at 2B and SS. Fry is okay at 3B (below league average range wise) plus isn't our best 1B defensively. That goes to Brooks without a doubt...

All I am saying is you have to replace Clement with a guy who can play a bunch of positions and be able to bat a couple times a week. He has high intangibles and is willing to do whatever is necessary for the team whether or not.

I just don't see a good replacement on this roster in the minors nor in the bigs for the role.

Honestly if the main guys were actually hitting, I don't think we would be having this issue right now and debating on who is at the end of the bench.

Naylor can't hit lefties though. This year he's been especially bad (9% K against RHP/29% K against LHP). Unless he starts, going forward I don't see how he can be thought of as an every day 1B. Not saying Miller is the answer (I don't think he is) but it'd be nice to figure out something there.
Naylor's .207 avg/ .570 OPS vs LHP is no worse than Miller's .207 avg/ .558 OPS total over his past 60 games after Miller's 8 game hot streak to start the year. I think Naylor needs to platoon more for his health recovering from his injury than his batting if Miller is the only other option. Josh is still struggling running and you can see him grimace every couple of games. No reason to beat him to the ground.

Interesting bringing back Mercado today. Is it a short term RH OF fix while Oscar G is on the IL?

If Kwan didn't have god-tier level contact skills, he 100% would not be a major league player.

Those stats aren't being misused. They're accurate. Kwan is poor at what those stats represent. It just so happens that he never swings and misses and has a good eye at the plate.

Having a 3rd-string catcher does something important: It frees up Maile to pitch. He's Way better than Clement on the bump.

We finished the gauntlet 8-9. Not bad at all and better than I hoped for. Now let's hammer the Tigers and A's.

Clement needs to go. Straw needs to figure things out in Columbus. Kwan's OBP is through the roof good and he's shown that he can play centerfield quite well.

Owen Miller should be headed down I 71 as well. Saying that well we are just 2 games back is just a ridiculous take on this pathetic offense. How many guys in today's lineup were batting below the Mercado line? Way too many.

Ignoring the fact that we've gone thru nine games vs elite teams without losing ANY ground, just to complain about offense, is what is ridiculous.

In the end, what is the only thing that matters?

Beating out Minnesota and Chicago for the division title.

And we are in pretty good shape.

Well it would be nice to actually win a playoff series, which we haven’t done since 2016.
