2022 Season Series #26 | Guardians @ Tigers | July 4-6, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Clement got a hit! We just needed to believe in him! Lol

Sandy Leon finished 6 games as a reliever in 2021, though this was his first 2-inning outing.

And Maile is a better pitcher than Leon!

The sad part of this mess right now is that there are MULTIPLE things wrong... and unfortunately, that also means there's no quick and easy fix.

If you look at ERA ... starters are 19th in MLB ... Relievers including Clement are 13th ... Hitters are 23rd in OPS and 14th in avg ...

This is a streaky average team ...which is expected due to youth (needed to come back to earth - but crashing -- just wild ups and downs). They are lucky again to be in central. This isn't a WS team ... our help is 1/4 to 1 yr out ...

Starts will look so much better with Espino, Williams and Allen/Battenfield/Curry or Bibee in 1.5 yrs
Relievers will look so much better with your Vargas (dont expect him till end of year though), Gaddis, Miko, and other starters who aren't top 5....
Hitters look better w Naylor, Valera, Rocchio, Freeman, Jones, Brennan

There are too many holes to fill to do anything than outlast Minn/CHWS ....
Yes. While several are bitching and whining about the current play, my optimism for the very near future is keeping me grounded.

You named a few with Espino, Williams and Allen/Battenfield/Curry or Bibee, but don't sleep on Cantillo, Hankins, Morris and Burns. The SP depth is ridiculous and I expect some turnover soon.

The BP is going to be fine and should get better as Karinchak gets himself right and Vargas is promoted. Miko could be a good add as well and I don't expect Sandlin to struggle all season. DLS has been a great find and Hentges has been pretty damn good to. Morgan fills that all important role of multi-inning reliever.

Which "holes" would they fill? We have Jones lighting up AAA pitchers and Valera killing AA pitchers. As good as they are doing neither is performing as well as Brennan. I don't think they'll add an OFer until those guys are given an opportunity. I can't see them trading for a C with Lavastida and Naylor so close. Rocchio looks to be getting over his concussion issues. Tena is having a pretty good season and the jury is still out on Arias who has tremendous upside. In other words, it's very likely that Rosario's tenure will be short lived. He might make it to the offseason, but we won't see him in 2023.

This team is currently not constructed to compete for a title. That's not to say that things couldn't change quickly though. We all know that there is a lot of talent coming quickly and I'm ready to see what it can possibly bring to Cleveland.

The roster is fine, although a RH MLB bat, preferably one that plays OF/1B would help...and a vet reliever.

But the players we have now have to play better now.

Over the past three games we have given up nine walks, one HBP, made four errors, at least one base running boner, and made defensive miscues that don't show up in any box score.

The team is very young and looks very tired, which is understandable, but it has to play better baseball. Its built around pitching, defense, contact hitting, and elite base running. While it is capable of all four, its getting very little of any of it...outside of starting pitching and Clase.

All the gains made against the toughest stretch of the year are being lost against Detroit.

Being built around pitching and defense with elite base running is a plus, but contact hitting with no punch will get you nothing but 2 runs a game except on occasion. In fact, it will get you more games where you don't manage to score more than 2 runs(26 times) than games scoring 6 or more(14 times). Doesn't matter though because help is coming and not only can they hit, play defense and run, but the ball comes off their bats quite nicely. That will be what actually makes the difference.
