Like I said, a middleweight against a heavyweight. 6-0 Astros.
As usual, Tito left his starter in one batter too long. Plesac started the 5th having thrown 88 pitches. Bregman singled on a 2-0 pitch, then Diaz walked on five pitches. The last one wasn't close and Manning immediately said, "He's gassed". Did Tito take him out with two on, nobody out, and Plesac over 90 pitches? Of course not.
Plesac got the next batter, but McCormick singled to make it 2-0 with runners on the corners and that was it. It didn't cost us a win, but it was just another example of Tito sticking with his starter until he gets knocked out.
The Astros 6-9 hitters had 7 hits and all 6 RBI's.
It's not a good idea to bring in a lefty to face a batting order with eight right-handed bats, but Tito brought McCarty in anyway. He gave up 2 runs in 3 innings. Again, it didn't lose the game. I guess Tito figured if we're down 3 late against Verlander the game is over anyway.
Verlander now has 15 wins; Plesac 2. No shame in losing this one.
The Twins are down 6-2 in the 8th and the White Sox are down 3-2, also in the 8th. Maybe we'll all lose and hold our positions.
