2022 Season Series #34 | Astros @ Guardians | August 4-7, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Angels hit seven solo home runs and lose 8-7.

The Halos tied a major league record with seven solo home runs, including two by Shohei Ohtani, but still lost to the Oakland Athletics 8-7 in a crazy matinee affair at Angel Stadium.

The Angels are the first team in the majors to hit seven solo homers and score no other runs in a game. They're also the sixth team to hit seven homers and lose, according to STATS.

Gaddis had a 4.24 ERA at Akron. In two starts in Columbus he allowed 3 runs in 10 innings.

Hey, he's right-handed and with Brantley out the Astros had eight righties in the lineup last night.

Throw him to the wolves. Might as well go for 13 guys making their major league debuts. Can Will Brennan be far behind?

Love it!!!! Keep the churn alive!!

Go get them Hunter.

This is one of the guys flying under the radar.. he has a LOT of swing and miss.. especially when he's getting his changeup over the plate and down. He couples that with a fastball from the same tunnel.. and hitters can't figure out which is which... It's a dynamic combination.. Oh.. he also throws in a curve & slider.. both effective.. but nothing like the FB/CH.. We'll see.. The good news.. the Astros haven't.. at least not yet..

They have not been able to replace John Adams, and it shows.

The way he used to bang out those subtle codes to batters during a rally.

I mean, that Is how you win, right?
Can’t believe nobody ever picked up on it.

Framber Valdez goes for the Astros tonight. A 25-year-old lefty, Valdez is 9-4 with a 2.80 ERA. Great.

Valdez started against the Guardians in Houston in May and went 7 innings, allowing 3 runs. I think we're going to need more than three runs with Hunter Gaddis starting. Sorry, but a 4.24 ERA in AA don't impress me much, although he does get a lot of K's.

Right-handed batters are hitting .210 against Framber. He's been extremely consistent; his worst monthly ERA was July at 3.21.

If Franmil Reyes were still here we could see a Framber vs. Franmil matchup.

The key against Valdez is to take the first pitch and hit the next one. Batters who put the ball in play on a 1-0 count are hitting .354. If it's an 0-1 count they're hitting .371. If you get down in the count against this guy you're dead meat; his BAA's on 0-2, 1-2, and 2-2 counts are .103, .154, and .083.

It looks like once he gets two strikes on a hitter he won't throw a strike until he has to, and a lot of hitters have been chasing with two strikes.

Will Benson is still looking for that first big league hit. He's 0-for-5 with three K's (but at-bats against Verlander shouldn't count in the stats, IMO).

How do you avoid hitting the ball on the ground against Framber Valdez? He has a whopping 67% GB this year.

Leaders among qualified MLB starters:
1. Framber Valdez 66.9%
2. Logan Webb 56.7%
3. Sandy Alcantara 55.7%
4. Kyle Wright 53.1%
5. Martin Perez 52.6%
...
24. Shane Bieber 44.9%

It's rare you see one guy lead the league by so much in a particular stat, but I guess Judge is doing it with HR too.

Call.

Sometimes when fringe players get added to the 40 man and called up in season, it is because they are expendable.

Well I think someone will take Call...
