2022 Season Series #35 | Guardians @ Tigers | August 9-11, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yeah GG is kind of weird because you'd assume that any of the top 3 SS could be slotted in at 2B or 3B and probably win a GG there too. But they are too good defensively to play the "lesser position". Sometimes you end up with a guy like (at least early career) Machado or you could even think Gimenez from this year who get bumped to 3B/2B and can take home the GG. Gimenez won't due to Schoop but he is still very strong for the position.

Likewise, Mookie Betts did the transition from CF to RF and took home 4 GGs in a row from RF. By slotting into the "lesser position" you can get a much easier GG award making it really only a huge deal for the center positions (C, SS, CF).

As much as we complain about Owen Miller's defense at 1B, he's actually grading well according to metrics there mainly because he's competing against a bunch of lumbering 1B only guys with much less range and agility. He actually

I also think sometimes physical profiles and personalities take into part of a position as well as I know from personal experience. When it comes to Kwan, his defensive profile actually fits LF extremely well. He is a bit slow to be a top CF and his arm is a bit weak for RF, but he is a very good first step and very good route running and understands how to play OF well. Hence why he is ranking so high in LF since you don't have to have top speed nor a top arm to play.

If you dont want to believe your eyes...

Among qualified LFs in all of baseball...there are 13...Kwan ranks...

1st in DRS with 14. (Next highest is 7)
4th in UZR
3nd in UZR/150
1st in rPM with 12. (Next highest is 4)

He is an elite defensive LF, and deserves GG consideration.

But as a CF, he is average.
Thank you! Therein lies what I'm saying. Brennan is an above average defensive CFer from what I can tell. No, he is not as good defensively as Straw, but he looks to be a damn good CFer.

How come Brennan has no OF assists?

A little circumstantial don't ya think?

Maybe, but maybe not... Kwan has 7 assists in 200 chances in the bigs this season. Brennan has 8 in 400 chances... Brennan is supposed to have a good arm, but he has very little assist numbers. The question for me is why...

Even among good players, assists vary wildly season to season.

They're nearly as indicative of poor baserunning as they are good defense.

It's hard to judge Brennan for RF when he is supposed to have a good arm, but a very low amount of assists...

Brennan by the numbers hasn't shown the same range as Kwan, Benson, etc in the OF, so that with the little assists makes it look like LF is his position and with the range lower than Kwan, makes his spot on the roster look bleak at the moment. Now that's just going by stats. It doesn't mean that it could be way wrong in a sense.
