2022 Season | Series #45 | Angels @ Guardians | Sep. 12-14, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Sorry if this is beating a dead horse but it’s just tragic as shit to me that an all time great in Trout has played in 3 post season games in 12 seasons. The above tweet made me look into it to double check. Major market just can’t produce a winning product for 7 straight years; that’s fucking crazy to me.

Angels have to consider trading both Trout and Ohtani this off-season, right?

But wouldnt you and anyone else agree that tomorrows game might be the most important game of the year? Beating the White Sox tomorrow widens are lead to 5 games. Tristan has been our best or 2nd best pitcher all year (probably Bieber is our best) and it is his scheduled start, just doesnt make sense to me. Push Tristan back next week, not tomorrow or throw Gaddis on Friday and push Bieber one game and then Tristan one game next week.

Kind of agree with you as a win tomorrow brings the magic number down to 14 (just 19 yesterday) due to getting tie breaker locked in. But, Civale is doing BP tomorrow and they hope to have him back on Tuesday. Gaddis will just get the 1 start (McCarty is the guy optioned most likely but called back for Sat). Curry/Vargas can then come up for Gaddis to get another arm this weekend.

Yet, the point is to spread out the rookies
Thus - Gaddis
Fri - McK
Sat - Bieber/Pilk
Sun Morris
Mon - Quant
Tues Civale

They just didn't want to go into Sat with Pilk/Gaddis and Sun Morris. I would have taken the loss of say Gaddis on game #2 and paired him up with Curry just to throw 9 innings if it meant a good probability that we got a win tomorrow with Chicago coming in a rush to get to their next place. It also would have meant that McK could have gone 1 more start at the end of the season if needed.

If Cleveland had Trout and was paying him $37 mil, he wouldn't be playing for a winning team here, either.

Anaheim is a big market with lots of media. The Angels consistently rank in the top ten in payroll, which is presently at $180 mil.

That is obviously the Guardian's stance, just makes more sense to me to have McK pitch tomorrow because of the importance of the game and then push everyone back a game. I am guessing they want the pitching staff a certain order and want the rookie to be the 5th starter so they can skip when they want, still think starting McK is the better option.

I can see the reasoning behind starting Gaddis tomorrow.

If we didn't we would be facing a scenario in which we would be throwing three rookies in three games in about 28 hours.

Now, if you are hoping to get five innings from all three as a best case scenario, the pen has to cover at least twelve in about about 28 hours.

On top of that, the general hope is that Civale will go on Tuesday, and thats another game for which you can't expect to get length out of a starter.

But Tito can't plan for a best case scenario.

Delete ... was going off ESPN/538 pitching order instead of what I would have thought and what Pluto is saying too

Triston McKenzie will start Friday. Shane Bieber and rookie Konnor Pilkington each get a start on Saturday. Rookie Cody Morris will start Sunday and Cal Quantrill will start Monday in the season finale against the Twins.

several opportunities to make deals that would have had at least a chance to change the Halos trajectory have been presented and discarded as not in their best interest..

Several.. that would have been difference makers..

Tomorrow's game is the most important game for the Guardians that they're playing tomorrow..

no more...

no less...

I get it but if I can drop the magic number by 3 tomorrow instead of a more likely loss and thus "0" taken off the magic number (or the usual 1), I got to get that extra tie breaker game as quickly as possible versus assuming we can take 1 out of 3 in Chicago after a grueling weekend.

Chisox expect Guardians to crumble; match Lyon with Guardians AAA call up, per Chicago Sun-Times.

The Sox trail Cleveland by five in the loss column and with three games next week against them at home, they might have to win all four to win the division. The Guardians, who resisted the Sox’ recent surge with one of their own, have the advantage of closing the season with six games at home against the Royals and will likely have the tiebreaker over the Sox.

“They’ve been playing perfect until now,” shortstop Elvis Andrus said. “If we keep winning series, we know that sooner or later they’re going to crumble, the closer we get. Tomorrow’s going to be a really good game for us to go out there and [make] a statement.”

While Guardians right-hander Triston McKenzie was pushed ahead to start Cleveland’s series opener against the Twins on Friday, the Sox moved Lucas Giolito to face the Tigers Friday to allow Lance Lynn to face the Guardians.

“Lance is one of our horses and has been pitching really well,” Cairo said. “I think that’s the best matchup for them.”

I can't stop thinking about how awesome it was to beat three very good lefties in successive games, especially when we started AAA pitchers in two of them. I was hoping for one win but we got three.

Just amazing.

I love Freeman. I can see why he was our #1 prospect, or at least in the top three, for the last couple of years. The kid can put the bat on the ball and he doesn't chase much. He should be in there every day.

We are continuing to get help from the bottom third of the order, which we have not had for most of the year. Freeman with two hits, Straw with one, and Hedges with a sac bunt. We don't need them to be Jose Ramirez, just chip in something almost every game.

You just can't beat Cal Quantrill at the Prog.

When Ford came to bat with a runner on and two out in the 9th against Karinchak, I wanted Tito to bring in Hentges, knowing a home run would tie the game. But he stuck with Karinchak and he got Ford on a sharp ground ball to first.

I don't think Oscar is going to see very many breaking balls low in the zone from now on. Eight of his nine home runs are on breaking pitches, just one off a fastball. They're already starting to pitch him like they pitch Trout - fastballs up and in. The home run he hit today was on the outside corner at the knees, but at 6'4" Oscar's arms are long enough to barrel a pitch on the outside corner. So they're jamming him with hard stuff. Let's see if he can make an adjustment and start punishing pitchers who try to jam him.
