2023-24 Playoffs | Boston Series | Game #4 | Celtics @ Cavs | May 13, 2024

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Jerome signing didn't help at all..another injured 6'5 SG..thats not what they need.
I'll address Altman more in the coming months but he's too enamored with SG's.
If and I say if Mitchell stays ,there needs to be a bigger SG next to him who can also create his own shot. And I'm talking about any of the SG's already on the roster.
That said I'm tired of the SG's the Cavs and no real SF..That has to be a priority either in FA or a trade. Hate to say it, but they must draft one . The FO has been reluctant to do it,and unless someone can correct my memory they haven't drafted a legid taller SF since ...since...????
I don't question the wisdom of adding Jerome, it just didn't work out (to say the least). Season ending injury that we still don't know what happened.

but I agree, the Cavs need to move on from these 6'5-6'6" dudes and get some 6'7" and up dudes. Already have one in Emoni, which is a good sign.
I want them to snag KJ Martin on the cheap. I want them to draft one of Jalen Bridges, Tyler Smith, or Tristan Da Silva.
Hell, I would EVEN be down for a LeVert/Miles Bridges swap.

the Cavs haven't had a SF sized player starting or in rotation worth a crap since LeBron left.
Even with his problems I still prefer Strus to Cedi. But Strus would be best served in LeVert's current role with CPJ running point IMO. Retain Jerome for redundancy because he doesn't have that "Shang Tsung" property LeVert does.

It's time.

The competition is not just Boston, NY, Philly.... but it IS Orlando and teams like that who can just size you out of competing.

The attitude is there for the core guys. It's time to do like New York and get the right ones to glue it all together.

I was listening to Kendrick Perkins on ESPN commenting on the Phoenix Suns situation. They expected to go to the Finals this year but were blown out 4-0 in the first round by Minnesota. It's clear the Durant/Beal/Booker superstar triad is not working. Perkins said, "They need a point guard".

Looking at the Suns' roster - they don't have a point guard. It's not that they don't have a starting caliber point guard - they don't have ANY point guard.

So I propose a simple trade; Garland for Devin Booker. The ESPN trade machine said the trade works. Booker is signed for five years at $36 M per year; Garland for five years at $34 M per year. Booker is a 27-year-old shooting guard while Garland is a 24-year-old point guard.

At the moment the Suns have two shooting guards and no point guards while the Cavs have two point guards and no shooting guards. This trade could make both teams better.

Booker on balance is probably a better player than Garland so the Cavs could throw in Sam Merrill and the trade would still work. In fact, the money would be dead even.

Based on PER the Suns are not getting quite as much value according to Hollinger, but if Garland makes Durant and Beal better while Booker's skills don't mesh, then the Suns might be a better team with Garland.

Bradley Beal is the guy they would prefer to move but he's got a four-year contract at nearly $47 M per year and he's 30 and has failed to play in more than 60 games each of the last five years. That contract is untradeable unless the Suns are getting back something equally bad.
Since the perception is that Booker > Garland, I bet you’d have to dangle something more than Merril. Maybe Wade or Okoro on a sign and trade?

Okoro is a free agent after we lose the next game so we can't trade him. I'm not giving them Wade and the trade fails anyway because he makes too much money. The salaries have to be pretty close, otherwise I'd give them LeVert.

Get whatever you can in a sign and trade for Okoro.

You give them the #20 pick in this draft and do it as a draft day trade after we make the selection for them.
I don't think we're allowed to do that since we traded our first round picks last year and next year. Although we traded Agbaji in the Mitchell deal right after drafting him so maybe it's legal. If it is I would do Garland and our first round pick for Booker in a heartbeat.

Mitchell, Booker, Strus, Mobley, and Allen with Wade, LeVert, Jerome, Merrill, and Porter off the bench.

That would be an interesting lineup, but I want nothing to do with Booker @ $49 million per year. He's not enough of a difference maker to warrant that.

There is no restrictions to trading picks after they are made. The Stepien rule only means we have to keep the pick until the draft and make the pick. Basically they will agree on a deal and the Cavs make the pick for the Suns then they can make the deal official after the draft. We can trade the rights to that player immediately after we make the pick.
