OSU drops to 5th after an unimpressive showing against Indiana.

Got a couple weeks to figure it out before their first major test…
 
I’ll always struggle with offering a poll attention before like week 8 but yeah, it was messy. I’d rather the offense look disorganized under Day than the defense — albeit a pass rush looked absent and I continue to be baffled by the hype around JT and Jack Sawyer. They’re ghosts.
 
I don't know I mean I'll give McCord the first game jitters, but there was very little to believe he's good enough. Forget 1st round QB. He was screaming backup to me.

He could not, ever, get off of his first read. He looked like Baker Mayfield in the pros. Aka, he is only willing to throw the ball down the middle of the field, even if its covered.
 
Not sold on McCord but also didn’t think he looked any worse than Stroud in his first game.
 
I mean, we won Natty's with JT Barrett/Cardale Jones and Craig Krenzel playing QB.

I think McCord is easily good enough to be in that group.

But he almost certainly won't be carrying the team himself.

McCord sucks. Try the other guy :chuckle:

It’s mad early and we know we have talent, but yeah we played poorly. This type of effort against Notre Dame and we will get smoked. I agree that McCord really never through it deep outside (except that successful PI drawn when he did). Sort of a kid-gloves play calling mentality bc the game wasn’t out of reach enough maybe.

OTOH, we only gave up 8 first downs on 11 possessions. I don’t care who you play, that’s pretty good. I can’t speak to Indiana’s players or play callers, so just saying I am cautiously optimistic with our D.

I’m expecting the D to continue to progress. The questions for me are:

1) Can we have an elite offense without a clear star at QB?

2) Will the defense fold in the biggest moments like the last two seasons?

1. Yes. Cooper/Njoku/Moore is pretty dirty on top of Chubb who, if he were a vocal asshole, would be acknowledged as the most intimidating player in the NFL.
2. No. Joe Woods is gone and our previously biggest weakness, DL, was hit with the Berry barrage. And also, no Joe Woods. No more bend then break defense or just break defense. Picture Garrett in the wide 9 with a non-Clowney threat at other DE. Clowney was a stiff. All ego no heart and no bend. Imagine an interior that is the opposite of suck. It’s hard to imagine even, but we will see it this season, maybe this weekend.

It’s going down.
