What are the Pirates doing exactly? Doesn't seem like something a team in their condition should be doing.
They are picking potential deadline trade pieces... If Choi or Santana put something together, they may end up will end up with something to "cash in on"...Pretty ugly stuff and it's hard to defend as upgrades/competitive choices...

I was thinking along the same lines, but it seems a bit risky on their part. I guess a little under $7M isn't going to hurt a team with such a low payroll anyway.

Exactly. It's 2022, 7 million doesn't buy you an upgrade in MLB. He's a warm body who may give you a little something more, but expecting that results in getting less. If Los can somehow get it rolling again - the Pirates end up with a prospect(s) of some note.

I need to worry about what the Guardians are going to do. My head hurts trying to understand how the pieces are going to fit(again) and what they may or may not do. Who's catching with Bo? Who's filling out the rotation? Who's spelling Josh at 1B against LHP? Are they going to extend Rosario or deal him? I sure as hell hope the latter. Will we have to watch Hedges sorry ass try and hit again? Will Straw continue to suck so bad offensively that it doesn't justify his GG defense?

The winter meetings can't get here fast enough, but even then we aren't known for making deals during that time. Seems to be the place where ideas are exchanged instead of actual trades.

Hedges, Kluber, Hoskins, neither, yes,no.

The path of least resistance offseason or if you will, the “cash on, cash off” bridge to 2024.

Well, if they can keep him healthy the White Sox just got better by signing Clevinger.

With our current pitching depth I see no need to sign Kluber, but I wouldn't be upset if they did. Hoskins could certainly help us, but a big hell no to Hedges. I've seen enough and I'm ready to move on. I am not a fan of one dimensional players. Especially those who bring no offensive value. I'm not a fan of clunkers in the field either. Just make the routine plays and hit the shit out of the baseball. That's what entertains me.

The chance of him staying healthy all season is a pipe-dream, His only season of having over 130 IP or having 25 or more starts was 2018...

It is a coin-flip if he gets to 125 IP.....

He just threw 158 innings in 29 starts this season and it looks like his mechanics are much better than previous years. I'm not saying there is or isn't risk, but it would probably wouldn't require much to get him.

Not only is his FB back to mid 90's, but his cutter is absolutely filthy. He's not the same pitcher he was 2 or 3 yrs ago, but I here what you're saying Mad.

Oh good Lord! I just watched a clip of him from 2019 and yeah, he's is nothing at all like he was then. Go take a look for yourself Mad. His arm action is ridiculously shorter and his mechanic cleaner and repeated better because of it. What a drastic difference!

CDav45 - Where are u getting the numbers (in bold) for 2022??

Baseball Reference has Clev with the following:
https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/clevimi01.shtml

2022 MiLB SDP (AAA & A) 3 games, 3 starts and a total of 8.2 IP
2022 MLB SDP 23 games, 22 starts and a total of 114.1 innings (Regular season)
2022 MLB SDP 2 games, 2 starts and a total of 2.2 IP (Postseason)

Sorry for not including his minor league and post-season numbers in my original post, but Clevinger only got a 1 yr prove it deal with the ChiSox.
Perhaps the mechanical changes you saw on video will help him stay healthy in 2023 as you imply. Until he does, I will be a doubter, especially due to his off the field issues & demeanor.
