2023 NBA Season - Around the League

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
When has the RoY award and 'wins' ever carried any weight? Carmelo > LeBron if that's the case.
14 or 15 wins, dude, historically terrible; Spurs won 22 games last year... It would be the least number of wins in the history of the award. Give him runner-up if he plays 65 games.

Okay, Chet is the 3rd best player on the Thunder. Wemby is the best player on the Spurs no question. The greatness of Wemby doesn't get blamed for not having expected wins on the table. I'll never overvalue a rookie and his team success when it comes to RoY. Chet has a MVP favorite performing night in and night out making everything that much easier.

While I like how you're going to bat for a guy on my West team @bushwick_bill , I don't think wins should be as important for ROY as, say, MVP has historically been. Most of the best rookies are taken in the lottery by teams that already suck. And unlike vets, rookies have no idea how to lead teams to Ws yet; that comes with experience. With all that in mind, I think ROY has to go to who performs the best individually regardless of Ws. Wemby has been outplaying Chet since January and has outplayed him in the last two head to head matchups, so he's got to be the favorite right now. Unless Chet really goes on a rampage in the remaining months and dominates the final head to head matchup in April, I don't see him winning. And I'm totally fine with that. I'm much more interested in him getting needed playoff experience early and developing from there.

I will die on this hill lol lol lol... The Spurs are historically bad. No rookie has ever won this award with as low as wins... 14 or 15 wins is soooooo bad in the NBA, on top of multiple teams doing this... No player on a team this bad deserves any award... I am happy to disagree with everyone, that is just my take, that and I cannot stand the hype train with him... lol lol lol

I don't know this for certain, but if you polled all 30 GMs publicly 29 would take Wemby over Chet . If you did it anaomously it would be 30.

Chet is ROTY in 50% of the years. Wemby is otherworldly. I'm not sure anyone since Shaq beats him.

For sure. As much as I find him annoying (more the hype) I am not trying to say he stinks that would be absurd... My entire point is he is on one of the worst teams in the NBA. No player on a team this bad has ever won this award. 14 wins in the NBA is historically bad... Cleveland's recently horrifically bad teams won more games...

Just tuned in to the Bucks-Bulls game hoping that the Bulls could do us a solid; not looking good so far. The Bucks have had a nice little stretch of late

How are we defining "historical "? Their current pace has them at 16 or 18 wins, though im not looking at remaining SOS. Its something that happens every year. And at least 2 teams will have worse records THIS year. IdK, "Historical " seems like an overstatement to me.

Wemby has been playing like an All NBA and DPOY type player for almost 3 months. He doesn't have the #2 MVP ladder player on his team. He has an awful roster around him. And he has a tight minutes restriction. You can't expect a 19 year old do do much more.

It's unfair that Chet got saddled with Wemby. But this one is Wemby by a mile. That man will break the league.
