2023 NBA Season - Around the League

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Watching the Spurs vs the Clippers. Neither the Spurs nor Wemby looking impressive. Spurs about to go to 3-11, they are in a tight race with Portland for last place in the West. Wemby 4-12 (0-4 from 3) for 9 points, only 3 rebounds, 2 blocks, 4 assists in 27 minutes of play. Worse than average game for him but his average game hasn’t been that great from an efficiency or winning perspective. He just doesn’t look like a real good shooter, and you can see that much shorter defenders can crowd him and make him look uncomfortable on midrange shots. On three pointers he just doesn’t look that naturally accurate.

It looks like Pop is trying to let Wemby’s development happen naturally (i.e not feed him, let him get his shots in the flow of the game) on a not-very-good Spurs team that doesn’t have a great flow. That team could really use a conventional PG. I would also center developing Wemby more than they seem to be doing. But you know, I’m willing to admit Pops knows more about NBA coaching than I do.

When I think of the minutes Lebron is putting in, it reminds me of that video that came out about The Bus (Bettis) some years ago before the superbowl, and basically it was like this 2 hour ordeal before all his joints were were working and moving. Maybe Lebron doesn't have to go through all that, but dude has put some miles on that frame. I'm sure he'd never show it now, but maybe one day we'll see what he really goes through on a day to day basis.

What are the Lakers thinking though? They're going to get him hurt. Completely irresponsible.

It hurts to watch this play out. Early in the season he has the form it would take to get to the Finals but by the time the playoffs roll around he’s a fucking wreck. They need to sit him out for like a month the second half of the season to have him ready for the playoffs, but they have a team that can’t make the playoffs without destroying him to do it

I think the Wolves are the real deal and a legit threat out West.

I know the Jazz aren't playing to win, but tanking in a way that plummets the value of your best players is not the path I'd take.

Markennen and Collins playing all 82 with Jordan Clarkson and Colin Sexton as the teams "point guards" is gonna make Markennen and Collins look like they suck at basketball.

The Jazz are a very bad basketball team. It looks like they are trying to inflate certain players numbers so they can maximize the return when they are traded.

A jersey worn by the Spurs’ big man in his NBA debut just sold at the Sotheby’s for $762K, BasketballNews.com tweets. It’s the highest amount ever paid for a rookie jersey.

When the Spurs acquired Cedi Osman as part of the three-team sign-and-trade deal sending Max Strus to Cleveland, it wasn’t clear whether the veteran forward would even be in their plans. However, Osman is playing well in a regular role off the bench and has earned praise from head coach Gregg Popovich, who called him “a competitor of the highest order,” according to Tom Orsborn of The San Antonio Express-News (subscription required). “He’s been really good for us,” Popovich said of the 28-year-old, who is on an expiring contract.

that Pacers/Hawks final score is a joke. Spacing Uber Alles and NO defense? Man, GTFO.

I was out with family at the time, but I thought it was a glitch on espn when I saw the score of the 3rd quarter. It was higher than, or very close to, the score of the Cavs-Sixers game *with* an overtime.

Didnt Doug moe do this 40 years ago? This has always been a thing

Doug Moe was hilarious. A hell of a player who was caught up in scandal that also sidelined Connie Hawkins and Roger Brown before the ABA resurrected their careers. Sidekick of Larry Brown when they won a title with the Oakland Oaks that nearly bankrupted Pat Boone and later was his assistant coach at Carolina (ABA) and other stops. Godfather of the “Shoot first and ask questions later” school of coaching. Took absolutely no shit from anyone and wasn’t adverse to throwing players out of practice who were goofing off. Unfortunately coached before the YouTube era of coaching soundbites arrived.

Isaiah Joe with another scorching night from three. Dude could lead the league in percentage this season. His shot is so pure, I think it's going in every time.

Thunder as a team actually lead the entire LEAGUE in 3 point percentage, by the way. They're the only team above 40% atm.

Also, Chet had some nasty blocks tonight. There was one early on Drummond where Drummond did a spin move and looked like he'd shaken Chet and gotten an easy bucket near the rim, but Chet somehow stretched to get the ball and tap it to himself.

This is easily the most fun Thunder team since the glory days of young Durant and Westbrook. Just a half game in back of Minnesota now for 2nd in the West, and with the best point differential in the conference, second only to Boston in the whole league. I know it's still super early in the season, but I'm loving it, and can't wait to see how far these guys can go.
